Alphonce Nyamwaya, the boyfriend of 24-year-old Canada-based Kenyan nurse, Hellen Wendy Nyabuto, has revealed the last moments they shared before she drowned in a swimming pool while streaming a Facebook live video.

Nyamwaya noted that he was getting ready to head to work in the afternoon when he was contacted by Wendy who told her that she was going for a swim after wrapping up her morning shift.

“I was preparing myself for the afternoon shift when she gave me a video call.

"She told me she was headed to the swimming pool to relax after completing her morning shift. She inquired whether I had eaten before we said goodbye to each other,” he told the Nation.

He also responded to concerns by Kenyans on how she was alone in the pool for three hours on the fateful day by noting that the swimming pool was on private premises.

The distressing video seen by Viral Tea at the time it went viral on Saturday, August 19 showed Wendy broadcasting to her followers on Thursday, August 18 while in a joyous mood as she was playing in the water.

The nurse based in Toronto, Ontario, began swimming while her phone was recording the whole proceedings. She appeared to swim around and underwater before resurfacing to interact with her followers once more.

At exactly 10:33, she started splashing furiously in the water while being heard gasping for air and struggling to stay afloat.

At 10:43, her first loud cry for help could be heard. As the video crossed the 11th minute, Wendy's cries for help became more profound and from 11:54, it all fell silent.

The video remained to record the proceedings for 3 hours until an individual entered the pool at the 3:09 hour mark and noticed her in the pool. It was at this point that an alarm was raised and a caretaker of the facility was called immediately.

Wendy’s ambition of going abroad to seek greener pastures started after she completed high school at Itierio Girls in 2017. She had a strong determination and knew that she had to set the bar high for the rest of her siblings.

The eldest daughter in a family of six inquired from her close friends about the process of moving to overseas countries like the United States and Canada. She however did not know anyone in Canada despite having optimism that she would get the opportunity.

One of her closest friends said she kept on inquiring until she got someone who had relatives in Canada and who helped her move there after she secured a green card.
