Roots Party presidential running mate, Justina Wamae has revealed that she had her own business and her car before she met her party boss, George Wajackoyah.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, August 23, Wamae refuted a demand letter addressed to her by the party which revealed that she was for the short term assisted by the Party Leader with accommodation and the official party vehicle during the campaign period.

She added that she even showed evidence of her car when she was called upon for the interview, as well as her business which she shares with her husband.

“Immediately I was picked as running mate, I did an interview where I revealed the business I do with my husband.

"I even showed my car in that interview. So, no. I have never received anything from the party except food I ate in my principal’s rural home when we visited," she said.

Regarding her fallout with Wajackoyah, Wamae opened up on its genesis being his apparent endorsement of Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

According to her, Wajackoyah was displeased with her opinion on the matter, saying that as a party, they had not had a discussion about it.

“My principal did not like it that I gave my opinion when a clip of him appeared showing him endorsing one of our competitors. What I said is that as a party we had not had that discussion and indeed we hadn’t,” she added.

On the subject of cutting communication with the Roots Party leader, she noted that it was him that blocked her first before she responded in the same manner.

“It is true I blocked him, but he blocked me first when I wanted to know the direction we were taking as a party and what we stood for. He did not like it that I was questioning the way things were going at the time,” she added, however noting that she is still at the party and Wajackoyah can only make the final decision.

On whether she will attend the disciplinary hearing as directed, she noted that she is still consulting and will make the decision before the material day (Friday, August 26).

Amidst speculation regarding her swiftness to congratulate president-elect, William Ruto to find favour in his government, Wamae said that she will apply for the Principal Secretary position in Ruto’s government in the event the Supreme Court validates his election.

She noted that she wouldn't mind being absorbed into the Kenya Kwanza coalition as its manifesto resonated with the common mwananchi.

"If you look at the ages of all presidential candidates, Ruto resonates with the younger generation. In terms of manifestos, ours (Roots Party's) was similar to theirs. In the case of empowering the agricultural sector, Kenya Kwanza's manifesto was about the economic empowerment of the mwananchi. So, Kenyans appreciate a competent and brilliant mind hence I would serve diligently," she said.
