The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced on Friday, February 14, that part of the Thika Superhighway would be closed for four days.

According to KeNHA, the section located at Juja Highpoint, commonly referred to as Centurion, will be closed between Saturday, February 15, and Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 11 pm to 6 am.

This partial closure will allow for works to continue regarding the construction of a footbridge.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) would like to inform the public that Thika Superhighway shall be partially closed at Juja Highpoint (Centurion) to enable the construction of the footbridge as from Saturday, February 15, 2025 to Tuesday February 18, 2025 between 2300hrs to 0600hrs," announced KeNHA.

The closure means that traffic bound for Nairobi will divert behind the Lexo petrol station before rejoining the Superhighway, while traffic bound for Thika will divert behind the Centurion Hotel before rejoining the Superhighway.

Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas and follow the proposed traffic management plan given by KeNHA as well as cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

The newly constructed footbridge aims to improve pedestrian safety in the Juja Highpoint area, which has been notorious for accidents due to heavy traffic and frequent jaywalking.

Before its installation, pedestrians had to cross the busy dual carriageway, endangering their lives and contributing to traffic congestion.

The Juja Highpoint footbridge is part of KeNHA’s wider initiative to enhance road safety nationwide, especially along major high-traffic routes like Thika Road.

The announcement comes as the authority continues various road construction projects that have impacted traffic flow in and around Nairobi. These projects aim to improve road networks both within the country and beyond.

Governor Johnson Sakaja on November 15, 2024 revealed that major roads in the city were set for rehabilitation and construction works in the coming weeks.

"Some are classified as National while others are County calling for close collaboration with all agencies involved," the governor announced in a post shared on his X account.

KeNHA is also overseeing a project commissioned by President William Ruto. On February 7, 2025, President Ruto launched the upgrading of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP), a major initiative designed to enhance connectivity in North Eastern Kenya and improve cross-border access to Somalia and Ethiopia.
