National carrier Kenya Airways has cautioned that passengers using the airline for their travels during the festive season could experience flight interruptions for two weeks.

In a statement on Friday, December 8, KQ Group Managing Director and CEO Allan Kilavuka revealed that some of its aircraft may be grounded owing to challenges in acquiring spare parts from around the world, which are hampering routine maintenance of the planes.

"Our current flight schedule may experience disruptions in the coming weeks mainly due to challenges in the aircraft spare parts global supply chain. These challenges are leading to extended ground time of our aircraft for maintenance," Kilavuka stated in part.

"Additionally, this may also lead to grounding one or more of our aircraft in line with our commitment to the highest level for safety and reliability of our operations."

While issuing apologies for any inconveniences the disruption may cause to passengers' travel plans, KQ assured that its team is working tirelessly to minimize these disruptions and to keep its customers informed every step of the way.

"In the meantime, we kindly ask that you check updates on any changes to your flight schedule by checking our website, contacting our Customer Excellency Centre (CEC), or our mobile app. We are committed to providing you with timely information and support to help you navigate these potential challenges," the statement added.

Kilavuka warned that the circumstances may stretch for approximately two weeks as KQ stays committed to upholding the highest safety and comfort standards for passengers travelling with the airline.

He assured that "we are dedicated to resolving these issues as quickly and efficiently as possible."

The KQ boss urged concerned Kenyans to reach out to the airline through its official channels including email, social media platforms and through WhatsApp, promising to address the concerns regarding the operations of the airline.

In the meantime, the three key means of transport in the country that include road and rail are gearing up for an influx of passengers travelling during the festive period.

Furthermore, with Kenya Airways' potential disruptions, other local and international airlines could capitalize on the opportunity to ferry passengers, thus leading to profitability on their part.

Kenya Railways for instance announced the return of midweek train services to Kisumu and Nanyuki with weeks to go until the start of the festive season.
