The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has advised Kenyans to brace for high daytime temperatures over the next seven days.

In its weather forecast for the week of January 14-20, Kenya Met informed that many parts of the country would experience mostly sunny and dry weather conditions with daytime temperatures of over 30°C.

Regions specifically mentioned include the Coast, North-Eastern, North-Western, Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin and South-Eastern Lowlands.

"Most areas will be sunny and dry, but occasional rain may occur in Western Kenya, Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, Central Highlands (including Nairobi), & South-Eastern Lowlands, especially late in the week," stated the weatherman in part.

However, residents of Nairobi, Kisumu, Kiambu, Nyamira, Kisii, Baringo, Murang’a, Nyeri, and 24 other counties across the country have been advised to brace for morning rains and late afternoon showers. The rainfall was forecasted to occur during the forecast period between January 14 and January 20.

The outlook for the Highlands East of the Rift Valley of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, and Nairobi counties forecasts daylong sunny intervals with a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers.

The weatherman further predicted mainly sunny intervals expected to prevail during the day in the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok counties).

However, a few areas are likely to receive morning rains, late afternoon showers, and thunderstorms towards the end of the forecast week. Coastal counties like Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and areas of Tana River are expected to have daylong sunny intervals with the possibility of receiving occasional light morning showers.

Residents of North-Eastern and North Western counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Turkana, and Samburu were urged to brace for extremely high temperatures with peaks of up to 38°C. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy.

In the North Rift Valley and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley (Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Baringo, and West-Pokot Counties) sunny intervals are expected during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

In the Southeastern lowlands of Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, and Taita-Taveta counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River, Kenya Met forecasted warmer temperatures expected to prevail during the day.

However, a few areas are likely to experience morning rains and late afternoon showers. Nights are expected to be partly cloudy though a few areas may experience showers.

Despite the hot weather, Kenya Met cautioned of chilly nights in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central and South Rift Valley and Southeastern lowlands.

"Nights below 10°C in parts of the Central Highlands, Central/South Rift Valley & South-Eastern Lowlands," added the weather department.
