Kiambu Nominated Ward Representative Ezra Kabuga Kihara died on the morning of Sunday, September 22 after his car was involved in a road accident along Thika Road.

The tragic accident occurred in Juja as the lawmaker was travelling to Thika Town from Nairobi. A police report on the accident revealed that Kabuga died when his car, a Subaru Forester, rammed a lorry from behind.

“On reaching the location of the accident, the driver of the Forester rammed the rear of Isuzu FRR lorry. As a result, the driver of the Subaru Forester died on the spot,” reads part of the report.

Images and video footage from the scene showed his vehicle which went up into flames after the incident, though it remains unclear what caused it to go up in flames.

His body was moved to Montezuma Funeral Home, awaiting postmodern, while both motor vehicles were towed to a local police station for inspection.

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi confirmed the incident, which occurred near Mangu High School.

“It was with a deep sense of loss that I received the sad news of the death of nominated Member of County Assembly Hon. Ezra Kabuga Kihara,” Wamatangi said in a Facebook post on September 22.

“It is heartbreaking to lose such a young, dedicated legislator with so much promise for the future. During this difficult time, I stand with the family in grief and prayer.”

Kiambu woman representative Anne Wamuratha also mourned the nominated MCA. "This morning’s tragic accident on Thika Road has left us devastated, as we mourn the untimely loss of Nominated MCA Hon. Ezra Kabuga Kihara. My deepest condolences go out to the Kiambu County Assembly, his family, and friends during this incredibly difficult time," she shared on Facebook.

"Hon. Ezra was a promising young leader, and his sudden departure is a tremendous loss for all who knew and worked with him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may those grieving find strength and comfort in the memories they shared with him. Rest in peace. It hurts."

President William Ruto in a statement mourned the late Kabuga as a dedicated and loyal member of UDA. His skills in party politics were revealed to be exemplary, and he played a crucial role as the Kiambu County returning officer during the party primaries in 2022.

As a result of his outstanding leadership capabilities, Kabuga was nominated as an MCA and recently, he was picked as a member of the UDA National Elections Board technical team for grassroots elections.
