Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced a number of changes affecting county commissioners and their deputies across the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, March 7, Kindiki transferred 20 county commissioners across various counties but retained 15 in their current capacities.

Four commissioners were recalled to the Ministry Headquarters for re-deployment while 12 deputy county commissioners were promoted and would be deployed by the Ministry of Interior.

Eight deputy commissioners were however transferred from their current capacities.

Among those recalled to the Ministry Headquarters include Herman Shambi (Nandi), Mathias Rioba (Trans-Nzoia), Michael Ivuto (Kirinyaga) and Stephen Kihara (Embu). 

Commissioners who were transferred from their stations include Karuku Ngumo ( from Murang'a to Wajir), Amos Mariba (from Nyandarua to Mandera), Nobert Komora (from Tharaka Nithi to Marsabit),  Paul Famba (from Headquarters to Machakos) and Josephine Onunga (from Headquarters to Taita-Taveta). 

A new addition was made as Nairobi County commissioner in form of Susan Waweru (from Vihiga to Nairobi) while others include Joshua Nkanatha (from Kiambu to Embu) and Onesmus Kyatha (from Mandera to Nyamira). 

Among the Deputy commissioners who were promoted to county commissioners include Jack Obuo (Kiambu), Pius Mugambi (Nyeri), Joseph Biwott (Kilifi), Louis Rono (Lamu), Nayioma Tobiko (Kirinyaga) Stephen Kutwa (Baringo) and Caroline Mueni (Nandi). 

Eight Deputy Commissioners were transferred to areas in the North Rift regions including Kajiado North, Samburu East, Kajiado West, Transmara South, Tiaty West and Tiaty East.

Kindiki's last reshuffle came on the last day of 2022; he recalled all regional commissioners to the Ministry of Interior headquarters.

"All regional commissioners have been recalled to the ministry headquarters for further deployment," Kindiki stated in a press release on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

At the same time, Kindiki appointed Anne Ng'etich, the immediate former Secretary of Administration in the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning as the new Principal Administrative Secretary (PAS) at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

Beverly Opwora, who was the County Commissioner for Makueni County will take over as the Secretary for National Administration while Jacob Namulen, who was the County Commissioner for Wajir County is the new Secretary for Peace Building.

On Monday, November 14, 2022, he effected immediate changes to the National Police Service (NPS) command in Nairobi following the spike in criminal attacks.
