Kisii Man Who Beheaded Two Daughters Released

35-year-old Nelson Momanyi Ontita who was accused of beheading his two daughters in the Kiobegi Sub location, Kisii County on Friday, January 6 has been released on a Ksh500,000 bond.

Ontita appeared in a virtual court before Homa Bay presiding Judge Kiarie wa Kiarie for murder charges on Tuesday, January 31.

He was charged with two counts that on January 6, he unlawfully and willingly killed his two children contrary to Sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code. He pleaded not guilty to having committed the said offences.

An advocate of the High Court, Steve Okemwa, who is representing the accused person asked the court to release him on a bond as the case proceeds for pretrial.

Ontita was released on a bond of Ksh500,000 with one surety.

The case will resume for mentioning on February 8, 2023, and February 20, 2023, for hearing.

A post-mortem report indicated that the two girls who were killed by their father suffered head and neck injuries as a result of sharp force trauma.

Ontita was deemed mentally fit to face trial after an investigating officer revealed on Thursday, January 12 that a psychiatrist report revealed that Ontita is fit to stand trial after he underwent mental assessment tests on Wednesday, January 11.

Prosecution Council Ian Mukusi on his application told the court to grant them 14 days to complete investigations following the affidavit sworn in by the investigation officer handling this case.

"We are praying with this court to give the investigation officers 14 days to detain the suspect as they complete the investigations," said the court prosecutor.

The investigating officers recorded statements from the witnesses who are also family members, including Ontita's parents.

They stated that they took exhibits to a government chemist in Kisumu for analysis including a machete (panga), a pair of trousers and a pair of sandals which had blood stains.

They also extracted nails from the deceased children to match their DNA with that of Ontita before linking him directly to the murder.
