Sababisha Festival event organisers have postponed the highly anticipated concert headlined by Jamaican dancehall star Chinsea Linda Lee, better known as Shenseea, in Kenya.

In a statement on Monday, August 21, the organisers disclosed that the concert which was set to take place on Saturday, August 26 has been moved to a later date in October.

They noted that the decision followed lengthy consultations involving the Blessed hitmaker's management team, even though they termed it as a tough one to make given that concert-goers and fans of the songstress had already made plans in advance to attend the showpiece.

"We are deeply sorry to announce that after long consultations between our ground team and Shenseea management team, we have made the decision to postpone the Sababisha Festival which was scheduled to happen on 26th August 2023 at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi, Kenya to a later date in October.

"This decision has not been easy on both parties. We acknowledge the disappointment you may feel, especially those who had locked in the date. However, we seek your patience and understanding during this time as we shall bounce you back to a thriving and vibrant experience soon," Sababisha Festival stated in part.

The organisers added that they are currently working and coordinating with all stakeholders to secure a new date, which shall be communicated in the coming days.

"Meanwhile, please stay connected with us through our social media channels for official announcements and guidelines.

"We shall keep you posted on all the latest developments and any details regarding the festival as well as the new date. Your support means everything to us hence we want to ensure that you are fully informed," the organisers added.

The postponement comes as a blow to Kenyans who were anticipating attending the concert, particularly those on payroll as the concert had fallen on a date when most remittances are made at the end of every month.

Also affected were business persons who had anticipated using the concert to reap huge profits from the sale of their products and services to the concertgoers on top of the performances.

Shenseea confirmed on Thursday, July 6 that she would perform in Kenya, saying in a post that "Kenya I'm coming on August 26th at Uhuru Gardens", two days after Viral Tea first reported that she was set to perform in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.

The event organisers had revealed to us at the time that they had sought her consent first before making public the announcement, evidenced by a poster which showed her as the headline act.

Ticket sales for the highly anticipated concert began on Tuesday, July 4, with a regular ticket setting one back Ksh3,000 while VIP tickets will go for Ksh8,000.

Shenseea's meteoric rise to fame has seen her collaborate with artists like Tarrus Riley, Vybz Kartel, Swae Lee, Young Thug, and Kanye West's new album 'Donda,' for which she was nominated for a Grammy for Album Of The Year at the 64th Grammy Awards.

Since her debut song Loodi with Vybz Kartel in 2016, Shenseea has been one of the fast-rising dancehall stars and DJs out of Jamaica. Her collaboration with Sean Paul on the song Rolling played a big part in increasing her visibility internationally.

She has also proved herself with strong and flowing lyrics while in London on shows with DJs like Toddla T and Seani B.

On June 4, 2023, she released a new single titled “Sold Out", produced by London On Da Track and Dready. It followed her latest single, “Curious,” released in April ahead of her Coachella debut.

In 2022, Shenseea released her highly anticipated debut album, Alpha, which debuted at No.2 on Billboard’s Reggae Album chart.
