Police officers investigating the murder of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioner (IEBC) Returning Officer for Embakasi East constituency Daniel Mbolu Musyoka now believe that he was killed between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

Oloitokitok police boss, Kipruto Ruto revealed on Tuesday, August 16 that Musyoka's body was dumped in a place where wild animals were common, but he was not mauled.

In addition, the body had fresh wounds, indicating that the murder took place before his body was discovered.

The former IEBC official was also revealed to have had wounds on his arm, indicating that he was in a struggle with the killers.

"When the police arrived at the scene, we discovered that it was a male body and it was still fresh," he stated.

Police also revealed that they suspect that the killers knew the area well given the thicket where the body was found.

Ruto indicated that it would have been difficult for new people to manoeuvre the forest, especially in the morning.

A herder who backed up his sentiments revealed that the official's body was dumped in a seasonal river.

"He was found with his arms and legs folded with bruises on his arms. This is not the first time this has happened here. We discovered him in the hole," the herder said.

A postmortem on Musyoka's body will be conducted today with the police waiting on the report as they intensify their investigations.

The body was positively identified by his sisters; Mary Mwikali and Ann Mboya at the Loitokitok sub-county mortuary.

The police believe that Musyoka was killed elsewhere and his body thrown into the forest.

Despite the fact that the man's clothing, a tracksuit and a Maasai shuka, were discovered at the valley's edge, the police chief said the body was nude.

Musyoka has been a national headline after IEBC chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, announced on Friday, August 12 that he had been reported missing.

"Our returning officer for Embakasi East Constituency, Daniel Musyoka has been reported missing while on duty at the East African School of Aviation tallying centre," he announced.

Chebukati added that the commission had received reports that at around 9 am on Thursday, August 11, he was escorted by his bodyguard from his house to the tallying centre. 45 minutes later, he excused himself to make a telephone call but did not return to the centre.
