Former National Treasury official Tom Osinde may have been drugged and killed at his Nakuru home before his body was found in River Kuja, Migori County.

Police sources who spoke to Citizen Digital on the condition of anonymity intimated that Osinde was killed on the same day he was declared missing, on Sunday, June 18, and his body was dumped in the river before it was found.

Rongai Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officer Donatta Atieno further noted that the deceased's house was tampered with, as two light switches in the premises in Ngata estate, Nakuru County were interfered with.

The DCIO further noted that the police were still investigating whether the switches, located on the upper floor of the house within the 10-acre home were interfered with before or after his disappearance.

She also indicated that the two employees who were arrested as suspects in the case will be detained for 21 days at the Menengai Police Station.

"The farm is over 10 acres and we combed through 7 acres and nothing substantive came up. What we noticed is that two switches in the house (upstairs) are interfered with but we are still investigating it. We have not discussed the same with the family," she stated.

Another employee - who is the prime suspect in the alleged murder - admitted to having thrown the body of the former Treasury employee in River Kuja also known as Gucha River.

Nyakeyo Assistant Chief had revealed to the press that the prime suspect had directed detectives to the river on Wednesday, June 28 and pinpointed the exact location where Osinde's body was thrown in from.

The assistant chief also added that the police and national government officials also decided to involve professional divers in the search for the body.

However, the exercise proved futile as the team was unable to retrieve the body, whose remains were booked in a morgue in Migori County.

The body was reported to have been found floating on the river on Thursday, June 22, five days after Osinde was declared missing, and was taken to the Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary where it was booked as a ‘John Doe’ since it was unidentified at the time.

However, a family member, in the company of a police officer, went to the hospital on Wednesday night, June 28 and positively identified the body as belonging to Osinde.

A post-mortem examination is set to be conducted later in the day in response to reports indicating that the body had visible injuries resembling those obtained from a blunt object and that the deceased’s vehicle – which was found on Saturday – also had traces of blood inside.

The discovery came following the arrest of the two suspects in connection with the disappearance, with DCIO Otieno stating that the suspects in custody were some of the employees at a farm in Trans Mara West, Narok County, where Osinde's vehicle was discovered on Saturday, June 24 vandalised and abandoned.
