“The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition notifies your office of scheduled peaceful public meetings/procession to take place on Tuesday 2nd May 2023 in Nairobi City County. In the course of the said meeting/procession on the 2nd May 2023, we intend to submit a written Petition to Harambee House, Nairobi.

“The meetings/processions will take place in the major streets of Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue and Harambee Avenue that fall within your jurisdiction from dawn to dusk i.e. from six o'clock in the morning to six o'clock in the afternoon,” Oparanya stated in part.

The coalition further requested the deployment of police officers to bolster security during the procession.

“We, therefore, request your office to deploy enough police officers to guarantee security to attendees and exercise crowd control,” the letter added.

On his part, National Assembly Minority Leader, Opiyo Wandayi revealed Raila's return date to Kenya being Friday, April 28, from his brief stay abroad.

"As a Party, we are gearing up to accord him a grand welcome on arrival at the JKIA, then join him in a grand procession to the People's Baraza at Kamukunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, on the same day. Raila will address the nation at the said meeting.

"The Kibra People's Baraza will also set the stage for the peaceful mass action that is set to resume in Nairobi on 2nd May 2023, as earlier announced. We will be giving more information and details on the upcoming May events in the coming days and at the Kibra rally," he announced in a statement.

Wandayi further appealed to all Azimio supporters of the coalition's quest for a just, fair and democratic nation that prioritizes its citizens, to turn up in large numbers and welcome Raila home and attend the Kibra rally.

"We further appeal to everyone attending the twin events to maintain peace and order as we have done in the past," he went on.
