Gusii Youth Movement (GYM) President, Kelvin Nyamache, on Monday, August 7 narrated details of the last meeting he had with Nyamira County Assembly Majority Leader Elijah Osiemo before the latter was killed in a road accident.

In a statement seen by Viral Tea, Nyamache mourned the demise of Osiemo, who was the MCA for Nyamaiya Ward while revealing details of a meeting he had with the deceased in July.

Nyamache revealed that the meeting was intended to discuss collaborations meant to develop a framework for the future of the Gusii region, and it was during the collaborations that Osiemo reached out to the movement to host a summit in his ward which he was willing to pay for.

"Hon. Elijah Osiemo has died, leaving behind an indelible mark on my heart and memories of our fateful meeting at the Mwalimu Hotel a month ago. The Gusii Youth Movement's Directors and I engaged in discussions, forging alliances to shape the future of Gusii-land, and we found in him a leader of remarkable qualities.

"A visionary, his dreams reached beyond the horizon, ignited by an ambitious spirit that knew no bounds, yet humbly adorned with wisdom. The flame of his passion for education burned brightly, and his earnest request for us to hold a Career Exposition and Empowerment Summit in his ward, which he was eager to fund, spoke volumes of his commitment to our cause," the statement read in part.

According to Nyamache, plans and aspirations were set and flowing well until he received word of Osiemo's death in the accident along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road which occurred while he was travelling to Nairobi alongside two of his colleagues.

"Plans were in motion, aspirations taking shape, until a friend's sorrowful words brought the tragic news of a road accident along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road, snuffing out his life in an instant.

"The weight of grief hangs heavy upon my soul as I ponder the brevity of existence. Life, so unpredictable and fleeting, has taught me a poignant lesson in loss and the urgency to cherish every fleeting moment," Nyamache added.

The GYM President had joined Kenyans as well as political factions and parties such as the United Progressive Alliance in expressing his condolences to the family of Osiemo

According to Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo, the two other MCAs, Duke Masira and Priscilla Nyatichi, sustained injuries and were rushed to Naivasha Level Four Hospital. Nyaribo mourned him as a focused leader who had immense leadership and political life ahead of him.

"In Hon. Elijah Osiemo, the County has lost a young, industrious, talented, and focused leader who had an immense leadership and political life ahead of him," said the Governor.

"My Government has directed that the body of Hon. Member of County Assembly be moved to Nairobi for preservation as the County comes to terms with this tragic death.  I take this opportunity to wish the injured MCas a quick recovery and offer toy heartfelt condolences to the late Osiemo's family, residents of Nyamaiya Ward, and Nyamira County."

The accident, according to preliminary reports, occurred after the driver of the car that was ferrying the MCAs hit a motorcycle rider before losing control and landing in a ditch.

Naivasha OCPD Benjamin Boen revealed that the driver of the car was overtaking a motorcycle operator who was ferrying a bag of charcoal when he hit him leading to the fatal accident.

"The four occupants were travelling in the same vehicle to Nairobi and at the time of the accident, the driver was attempting to overtake the Boda boda rider but hit a sack of charcoal which was on the motorcycle and lost control of the vehicle before landing in a ditch about 100 metres from the scene,"

"The driver escaped unhurt whereas the bodaboda rider sustained injuries on his legs during the road crash," Boen told the media.

The majority leader was pronounced dead on arrival at the Naivasha Level 4 Hospital, while the other two were admitted and are undergoing treatment.

Osiemo won the Nyamaiya ward seat on Nyaribo's UPA ticket in the August 9, 2022 polls.
