A Nigerian national has been placed in custody over the brutal murder of a 20-year-old woman at an Airbnb residence along TRM Drive in Roysambu along Thika Road in Nairobi.

Speaking to Viral Tea, sources privy to the matter revealed that the Nigerian was arrested on Monday night, January 15 while attempting to leave Kenya through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

The suspect was arrested as he attempted to leave the country for Abuja. Two other suspects were taken into custody at Kasarani Police Headquarters for allegedly aiding the Nigerian national.

The arrest comes after CCTV footage on Monday unmasked the facial identity of the main suspect behind the macabre murder whereby the woman's body was found dismembered.

Detectives reportedly used the footage to trace the Nigerian, who was captured donning a black cardigan, grey skinny jeans and wearing a white cap walking into a shop within the residence behind a woman who was dressed in a pink hoodie.

In the clip captured on Saturday, January 13 at around 4.20 pm, the suspect was seen talking on his phone before entering the shop which was adjacent to the building where the dismembered body parts of the woman were discovered the following day.

The suspect, who is still yet to be named, walked directly to the cashier, handing him his phone as the cashier handed it back to him, alongside a key.

During the entire short visit to the shop, he was tightly clutching a black bag and wearing spectacles presumably to make it harder for the footage to ascertain his identity.

He was also seen to be in a hurry as he exited the shop in a huff only to return five minutes later to hand the payment to the cashier before leaving, the last time the suspect was captured on camera before the brutal murder.

The suspect was anticipated to return the key on Sunday morning but failed to do so.

The manager of the Airbnb where he booked the premises on Saturday at 3 pm disclosed that she received a call from the caretaker after discovering suspicious polythene trash bags which contained the body parts.

With the arrest, police will seek to interrogate the three suspects as well as piece together evidence collected to establish the motive of the murder of the 20-year-old.

Meanwhile, reports emerged that the suspect used a hacksaw in his mission to dismember the body of the woman whose head is still missing.

Police believed that the suspect was on hire and he may have carried the body to show his masters he had accomplished the mission.

Using CCTV footage, and phone triangulation, the police placed the suspect in the Ruaka area, Kiambu County where he seemed to have been staying for days.

The team visited the area on Monday and asked for footage of surveillance cameras on several buildings as part of the probe, which would have enabled them to identify the suspect.
