President William Ruto has promised that more Kenyans will be employed by American companies that are operating through the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) framework.

Ruto held an engagement with Kenyans living in the United States (US) on Monday, May 20 at the Cobb Galleria Center, in Atlanta, Georgia where he revealed that already, 5,000 Kenyans have already been employed through the BPO framework.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is a subset of outsourcing that involves the contracting of the operations and responsibilities of a specific business process to a second-party service provider.

"That space of digital jobs is the real space that can give us opportunities for Kenyans to work. Last week, I am not talking about last year, I am not talking about last month, I am talking about last week.

"I was in Ruiru where we were commissioning a BPO that is going to hire 5,000 Kenyans, one BPO," Ruto said.

Adding "They are going to be doing online jobs. That particular BPO by CCI has JetBlue, AT&T, all American companies."

The president on Friday, May 10 opened the BPO firm’s five-storey facility at Tatu City, Kiambu County, billed as the country’s largest call centre, set to employ 5,000 Kenyans in the short term.

Ruto indicated that the centre will offer Kenyans online jobs, which he called a “real” opportunity ground amidst the unemployment crisis in the country.

During the CCI call centre launch, the company announced the creation of a second building at Tatu City, with the commitment to double CCI Kenya’s call centre workforce to 10,000, adding that the jobs span across call centre agents to managerial roles.

However, Ruto on Monday doubled that number to 20,000, saying that CCI will seek to meet that target by 2026.

“CCI in the next two years will be hiring 20,000 Kenyans. We are working with many of those companies to create such spaces not only in Ruiru but other Kenyan towns,” he said.

CCI Global serves top companies from North America, the U.K., Australia, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand, outsourcing their business processes to Africa, mainly customer service divisions.

The company says it currently employs over 15,000 staff serving over 80 companies across telecoms, media, mobile technology, financial services, hospitality, and healthcare.
