The Head of State on his social media platforms hailed the brilliance of Cardovillis as a sports broadcaster who played a vital role in popularising radio stations across the country.

President William Ruto has written a message of condolence following the death of renowned Capital FM sports presenter, Sean Cardovillis.

The Head of State on his social media platforms hailed the brilliance of Cardovillis as a sports broadcaster who played a vital role in popularising radio stations across the country.

Ruto termed Cardovillis' demise as a big loss for the media industry and showed solidarity to the family of the late journalist as well as Kenya's journalists hit hard by the loss.

"Saddened by the passing of a brilliant and outstanding sports broadcaster Sean Cardovillis. He was a cool, insightful and gifted journalist who played an integral role on our radio stations.

"We will miss his clear and concise voice, passion and upbeat personality. Our prayers are with his family and media fraternity at this painful time. Rest in Peace, Sean," he wrote.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on his part echoed Ruto's sentiments, adding that the country will miss Cardovillis' wide knowledge in several sports fields, including motorsport.

"Saddened by the untimely death of renowned sports journalist Sean Cardovillis, who passed on this morning.

"His wit and wide knowledge of various sports, especially Motorsport, will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues in the media and sports fraternity for this loss," he wrote.

Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris on her part mourned Cardovillis as a remarkable broadcaster whose passion for sports was truly contagious.

"His commentary brought joy to countless listeners, and he will be dearly missed in the sports community," she tweeted.

Viral Tea earlier established that Cardovillis was found dead outside his house along Rhapta Road, Westlands, Nairobi, where he lived alone.

Unconfirmed reports revealed that he collapsed on the staircase outside his house, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

"Sean’s powerful commentary and infectious enthusiasm for sports made him a household name locally and internationally. At Capital FM, we pay tribute to the man who brought sports to life for millions of our listeners around the world," stated Capital FM in its condolence message.

Cardovillis' medical condition was last made public in February 2022 when his family shared a notice online appealing for financial help. At the time, he had been admitted to the hospital's High Dependency Unit (HDU) after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

"Sean has been hospitalized for a while now. The chest pains he had been experiencing for a while turned into pneumonia and one of his lungs collapsed, he also had an infection around his heart," the notice from the family read in part.
