President William Ruto's daughter, June Ruto, has been appointed as the Director of Foreign Service and participant at the National Defence College.

A credible source confirmed to Viral Tea that the appointment was made on Wednesday, July 3 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The National Defence College, led by Lt. General Juma Shee Mwinyikai, is a military institution with a mission to prepare selected senior military officers and civil servants from Kenya and allied countries for higher responsibilities in security and public policy management.

The College's curriculum is implemented by military and foreign affairs ministry members, who identify resource personnel, moderate discussions, and direct presentations.

They also provide tutorials and research guidance to participants throughout the course period.

Viral Tea has also learnt that Simon Wanyonyi was named as Deputy Commandant-Civil at the National Defence College.

As a participant at the National Defence College, June will undergo a specialised training program geared towards preparing senior military, foreign affairs officials, and equivalent civil servants for elevated responsibilities in foreign policy management.

This comprehensive year-long program includes intensive coursework, discussions, and exercises aimed at sharpening strategic thinking and leadership acumen and deepening understanding of national and international security matters.

The opportunity is usually reserved for top-tier individuals within the service and as highly esteemed as it is, it aims to groom leaders for pivotal roles in defence and foreign affairs sectors.

Before her latest appointment, June was domiciled at the Protocol Department at State House, Nairobi. Her previous stints also include the Chargée d’Affaires in Poland, a matter which first emerged in 2019 when then-Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma (now Ruto's National Security Advisor) posted photos of her being received in Poland.

This role was controversial because Kenya had no diplomatic presence or embassy in Warsaw. Not only that, it saw Ruto (then Deputy President) come under fire for being hypocritical after criticising leaders who appointed their family members to top government positions.

June's appointment came days after President Ruto, during a press interview at State House, alleged that his children were also affected by the unemployment crisis in the country.

"Youth unemployment is something we must resolve. You Kenyans out of school out of college including my own children they speak to me, and they have no opportunities to work or to monetise their talents," he stated.

Other than June, Ruto's children include; Nick Ruto, Charlene Chelagat Ruto, Stephanie Jepchumba Ruto, George Ruto and Nadia Cherono Ruto. They have ventured into different fields including law, communication, and international relations.
