Starlet Wahu: Pastor Kanyari's 24-Year-Old Sister Murdered In Airbnb Apartment

Police on Friday, January 5 attached to Industrial Area Police Station arrested a middle-aged man suspected to have killed a 24-year-old woman identified as Starlet Wahu Mwangi, the younger sister of Prophet Victor Kanyari, in an Airbnb apartment in South B, Nairobi.

CCTV footage seen by Viral Tea showed the man in the company of the socialite who was wearing a short red dress, walking alongside the man from the apartment's lift and checking into the apartment. 

Police officers then responded to a distress call coming from the building's manager informing them that a murder had taken place inside the apartment.

Upon arrival, police found that the house was locked from outside, prompting the officers to force their way in by breaking the locks.

It was here that they found the lifeless body of Wahu near the door, soaked in blood and had multiple bruises and stab wounds all around the thighs, a visible sign of a scuffle in the apartment.

"We found the woman had bled to death. The victim suffered a quick death," Judith Nyongesa, the police commander in Makadara, informed the press. 

Recovered from the scene were items that included an HIV testing kit displaying negative results, hinting that both Wahu and the man had undergone testing for their HIV status beforehand.

Other items included used condoms, the victim's clothes, a mobile phone, alcohol, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon.

Officers believed that Wahu may have tried to leave the house to call for help before she ultimately died a few centimetres away from the door.

The officers quickly cordoned off the area as they initiated investigations into the cause of death as the apartment was believed to be an Airbnb space rented out by Wahu and a suspect in custody, John Matara.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine his motive for booking the apartment, taking the woman there and doing what he did to her,” added Nyongesa.

Matara was traced by the officers, with the help of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives to Mbagathi Hospital where he was found undergoing treatment for a stab wound.

Starlet Wahu, also known as Icey Wife, was a prominent figure in the beauty world, known for selling designer clothes and shoes. Her social media posts showcased her vibrant personality, with a particular emphasis on her fashion sense and zest for life.

In her last video post on December 27, 2023, she flaunted her stylish figure in an enticing bodycon dress while admiring her wig inside her posh car.

Her online presence reflected a celebration of personal achievements, as seen in her November post sharing her academic success. Spot checks by Viral Tea on her Instagram account showed that she had a private account with more than 12,800 followers.

“Your bad choices defined you yesterday, but they are not who you are today. Your future doesn’t have to travel the same path with the same people. You can start over,” she affirmed in a November 3, 2023 post.

Her dedication to self-improvement was evident in an August post where she expressed feeling great while working on herself.
