Renowned disc jockey Joseph Munoru AKA DJ Joe Mfalme has been released from remand in the ongoing murder case of a senior officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Felix Kelian.

The DJ and six other co-accused appeared before Kibera Law Courts, which ruled on Monday, April 8 that the six, including three police officers, shall be made state witnesses.

They have all been in remand as police concluded investigations into the matter.

According to reports, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in a letter dated April 5, 2024, advised that the six be witnesses in the case.

However, one of the accused in the assault of Kelian who is alleged to have caused his death will now be charged with murder. That person also happens to be DJ Mfalme's hypeman.

A state witness is one of two or more persons jointly charged with the commission of a crime but who is discharged with his consent as such accused so that he may be a witness for the State.

In a previous statement on Sunday, April 7, DJ Joe Mfalme thanked his fans for the support he received following his arrest.

“We want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering loyalty and encouragement during this challenging period. Our thoughts and prayers are still with the family and friends of those affected by this tragedy.

"The past 14 days have been intense, but your messages of solidarity and visits have kept the team going,” read the statement in part.

Previously, the DJ, his entourage and the police officers had been detained for 14 days to facilitate investigations into the case.

A source privy to the matter told Viral Tea that the DJ was arrested on Friday, March 22. We would later authoritatively confirm his arrest the following evening.

The top DJ, who wa detained at the Kabete Police Station alongside his bouncer, driver and photographer, allegedly attacked the Kabete Police Station Deputy DCIO on March 16, 2024.

Following the attack, the deceased officer was rushed to Lang’ata Hospital before being transferred to Nairobi West Hospital where he passed away while undergoing treatment.

The deceased was allegedly assaulted by the DJ and his accomplices after a minor accident earlier. It was claimed that DJ Mfalme and his entourage attacked the law enforcement officer after he accidentally scratched the DJ's vehicle.

The alleged assault occurred near the Kikuyu Police Station at an entertainment joint in the wee hours of the morning.

The relatives of the deceased narrated that later after the incident, the officer developed stomach complications and succumbed to his injuries when he was rushed to the hospital.

After the news of the DJ's arrest set social media platforms alight, the entertainer released a statement expressing his sympathies towards the family, friends and all those impacted by the death of the officer.

He added that his team was working with the DCI who launched investigations into the incident.
