Julius Mogoi, the prime suspect in the murder of former National Treasury official Tom Osinde, was allegedly hired by unknown persons to commit the murder, new details emerged on Thursday, June 6.

Detectives investigating the murder revealed that the late Osinde was killed at his home in Nakuru City's Ngata Estate before his body was transported to Kisii County and dumped in Gucha River.

Osinde's body was transported to Kisii, several kilometres from his home, aboard his Toyota Land Cruiser LC200 vehicle as detectives discovered blood stains in his house.

"We found blood stains in one of Osinde's houses where, according to his associates, he liked to spend his free time. The curtains and some clothes in the house had blood stains. We also found empty liquor bottles and food in the house," a senior detective at the centre of the murder probe told the Nation.

This is as detectives from the homicide department and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) work day and night to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder and the motive for the killing.

The detective revealed that there was an attempt to clean the house after the murder to hide evidence.

Mogoi had revealed to detectives that he was approached by the unknown individuals to kill Osinde but did not disclose further details, including their identities.

"Mogoi has revealed to senior investigators that he was approached to commit the murder, but he has not given any further details about the people who hired him and his accomplices," revealed a highly placed source at the centre of the investigation.

Osinde's killers appeared to have used a well-planned and executed approach by carefully wrapping his head with a polythene bag and some clothes to conceal details of the heinous act.

The detective added that his assailants used a sharp object to slash his head before wrapping it in a polythene bag and also used the back door to remove his body from the house, avoiding the main gate, which was guarded by one of his workers.

Investigators revealed that an analysis of the blood samples from the polythene bag and the curtains match those of the slain former Treasury official.

Despite being no CCTV cameras which would have aided detectives through footage capturing the events, the detectives managed to reconstruct the scene of the murder.

Meanwhile, close associates of Mugoi revealed that he was a notorious lawbreaker who terrorised the residents of Nyakeyo village, with some alleging that he stole his cousin's Ksh100,000 at one time as well as a Toyota Land Cruiser V8. It was reported that Mugoi relocated to Nakuru County in search of greener pastures.

Police will now be seeking to solve the mystery of who wanted Osinde dead and for what reason, whether he was a victim of a botched deal or what the motive of the murder was.

On Friday, June 30, an autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Odour, who conducted the postmortem at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, revealed that the late Tom died after suffering injuries to his head inflicted from several blows using a heavy object.

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder, with Mugoi reported being seen driving the deceased's vehicle days before his body was discovered.
