Househelp Sends Robbers To Hold Employer Hostage & Steal Car Over Ksh1,800
The man was apprehended by Kirinyaga West detectives for his role in the incident that transpired in the Sagana area on January 23, 2025.

A househelp is on the spot after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday, February 18 arrested a 29-year-old man linked to a robbery with violence incident in Kirinyaga County.
The man was apprehended by Kirinyaga West detectives for his role in the incident that transpired in the Sagana area on January 23, 2025.
"On that fateful night, Kinyua and an accomplice, armed with a knife, slipped into the complainant’s home through the rear kitchen door. The unsuspecting homeowner was fast asleep in her bedroom, unaware of the danger lurking just steps away," the investigative agency stated in part.
"The intruders, bold and menacing, confronted her with the knife, issuing a stern warning that any attempt to raise an alarm would be met with brutal violence."
The robbers claimed they were contracted by the househelp who had recently left the household after a disagreement, to collect an alleged unpaid salary balance of Ksh1,800.
While one of the assailants kept the homeowner at knifepoint, the other moved swiftly to a nearby bedroom, where the new house help was sleeping. "He silenced her by gagging her mouth and binding her hands with pieces of clothing, leaving her helpless and terrified," added the DCI.
With the owners of the house subdued, the duo embarked on a brazen looting spree. They made off with two mobile phones, a 50-inch television, a microwave, and the complainant’s sky-blue Honda Fit. Inside the vehicle was a purse containing Ksh12,000, an ID card, and other personal documents.
"Following the incident, detectives swiftly launched investigations. With time of the essence, they pursued every forensic lead with unwavering determination. Their efforts led them to a hideout in the Kiawara area, where they executed a well-coordinated raid, catching Kinyua off guard," added DCI.
Detectives arrested him on the spot, recovering the complainant’s stolen vehicle in the process. The suspect was taken into custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment as authorities continue their search for his accomplice, determined to bring all involved to justice.
In January this year, DCI detectives arrested a Ugandan househelp, two months since she played a role in a shocking assault inside a home in Eastleigh, Nairobi targeting her employer. The nanny was on the run following her involvement in the daring robbery plot captured on CCTV and first reported by Viral Tea on November 3, 2024, two days after the incident unfolded.
According to reports filed at Pangani Police Station, the househelp was in the house with a 20-year-old woman who was of Somali descent when she intentionally opened the door, admitting an unknown assailant armed with a hammer.
In a shocking turn of events, the duo reportedly assaulted the young woman, leaving her for dead in the bathroom. They then made off with a haul that included a gold set valued at Ksh210,000, a laptop worth Ksh110,000, and a smartphone priced at Ksh15,000.
