UPDATE: Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has revealed the next course of action following the resignation of his deputy, John Barorot, during an address on Monday, August 19.

In a statement, Bii revealed that when the position falls vacant officially at the start of September, he would spearhead the process of picking Barorot's replacement.

"With the position falling vacant from September 1, 2024, I will nominate a replacement within the coming weeks. The new Deputy Governor nominee will be transmitted to the County Assembly for vetting and approval before appointment," he announced.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has resigned from his position.

According to media reports, Barorot had announced his resignation during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret in the presence of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii.

Governor Jonathan Bii was present when his deputy made the announcement, but the governor is expected to make the official communication public at a press briefing.

Viral Tea has learnt that Barorot resigned on good terms with his boss, and stepped down because he reportedly secured a well-paying job with a multinational organisation in the ICT sector.

In a subsequent press briefing, Governor Bii disclosed that Barorot was moving away from politics to the cooperate world.

"Today we announce the exit of our deputy governor Engineer John Barorot who has secured a position as a Chief Executive Officer of an international organization in the ICT sector. His last day of work will be August 31, 2024," Governor Bii stated.

The move comes barely a week after he dismissed claims that he had quit office, the claims emerging after Barorot on August 15 skipped President William Ruto’s event for conferring City status to Eldoret sparking speculation over his whereabouts.

There has been speculation over his working relationship with Governor Bii but two weeks ago during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters, Governor Bii told the gathering that Barorot was on leave.

Engineer Barorot missed almost all preparations for the elevation of Eldoret to City status except one where he praised the role of the media in branding and marketing the new city.

Barorot is known to be a very reserved person who embraces a simple lifestyle and most of the time drives himself in the town.

His departure nonetheless comes after a period of service that has seen him contribute to various development projects and initiatives within the county on its way to having its headquarters elevated to a City.

Barorot, a distinguished professional with a background in engineering and strategic management, holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management from Moi University.

He also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, and Communications Engineering Technology from the same institution.

Per his LinkedIn account, he worked in various capacities at three major telecommunication firms being Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom Kenya. At the latter, he served as Chief Technology Officer.
