Lawyer Jared Magolo, who is representing televangelist Pastor Ezekiel Odero, played cagey with a section of journalists on Thursday, April 27 who sought more information regarding the pastor's arrest in Mombasa.

While addressing the Press shortly after Pastor Ezekiel's interrogation, the advocate expressed confidence that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers would appraise him of updates regarding their interrogation of the New Life International Church leader.

Magolo believed that Pastor Ezekiel would be released by the end of the day, Thursday.

Below is the video:

"We have talked with the officers, they are doing their work, they are investigating and will let us know what is going on," he stated.

Magolo further argued that the DCI officers were only fishing for clues regarding Pastor Ezekiel's case, adding that they had no substantive area of focus and were conducting general inquiries over a series of allegations.

"They will release him once they are done with investigations since they have no areas to catch on to," Magolo affirmed.

The lawyer also addressed claims that his client was related to the controversial Kilifi cult leader Paul Mackenzie who was arrested in the wake of 98 bodies exhumed from the 800-acre piece of land at Shakahola forest.

"On whether the pastor is related to controversial cult leader Paul Mackenzie, I don’t know," Magolo stated as he dodged the question, reaching out for his car.

During the press briefing, Magolo further confirmed that he had no idea regarding the whereabouts of Pastor Mackenzie's wife, saying “I didn’t know he had a wife." before he opened the door to his car.

During an interview with Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange on Wednesday, April 26, Roseline Asena, among the family members of a victim, raised doubts regarding the role of Pastor Mackenzie's wife in the Shakahola massacre.

"I have seen the government having Office of the First Lady, Woman Representative. Pastor Mackenzie had a spouse. What was her role? Where is she? What was her role in that church? In any mission, that woman preached to the women of that church.

"I would like to know what is it that you preached to my sister-in-law and her children because they were members of your congregation. Is there somebody who knows what she is doing and what she is up to? We must not leave any stone unturned in this story," she noted.

Hours after Pastor Ezekiel's arrest, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kithure Kindiki, confirmed that Pastor Ezekiel would face criminal charges with regard to the mass killing of his followers.
