American Television host and Film Producer Steve Harvey on Tuesday, May 21 announced that he will be visiting Kenya in September this year following an invitation by President William Ruto.

Speaking during a meeting with the Kenyan Head of State at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Harvey viewed the visit as timely given that this will coincide with his vacation before he resumes the shooting of his game show “Family Feud” in Johannesburg, South Africa.

"When I met my brother (President Ruto), he invited me to Kenya. It just so happens that September is when I hit my vacation. I'm going to start shooting Family Feud again in Johannesburg but this time for Botswana.

"So I'm going to be on that side of the world before I go to see my brother (Ruto) and we're going to hang out in Kenya. This is a dream come true," Harvey said.

Harvey added that he is looking forward to mentoring and inspiring the local creatives.

The TV host had received President Ruto and his delegation at the Studios, on behalf of Tyler Perry who was away attending to other engagements.

Perry launched the iconic studios to herald the production of Movie and TV content in 2019 on an expansive 134-hectare (330-acre) lot in Atlanta. The studios, with 12 soundstages, are valued at Ksh37 billion ($280 million).

He further revealed that meeting the President was one of the plans he had on his vision board.

"I'm here on behalf of my brother Tyler Perry, he's out of town and he wasn't going to make it. He said Steve, the President of Kenya is coming to town and I said that's ironic because he's on my vision board. I showed it to him today," the TV host said.

On his part, President Ruto said the partnership will change the trajectory of Kenya's creative industry.

"This is going to change our trajectory, we are going to plan more and I want to be grateful to people around this table. Thank you my good brother for what you are doing with us in Kenya and I want to promise you that when you come, you will find the government aligned to work with you and the people in that space so that we can do more together.

"All the people from Hollywood we appreciate you and we want to see what we can do together so that you can act as an inspiration and mentor to many in Kenya who want to do what you do," President Ruto noted.

Ruto also made a case for hosting the Grammy Awards in Kenya, proposing the iconic Maasai Mara backdrop of the 8th Wonder of the World, the Wildebeest Migration as the stage.

The Grammy organizers, intrigued by this novel idea, promised to visit Nairobi in July to discuss the proposal further and explore the feasibility of such a groundbreaking event.

President Ruto's efforts to position Kenya as a significant player in the entertainment industry come at a critical time when the country is looking to diversify its economic drivers and create more opportunities for its youthful population.
