Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Thursday, March 2, revealed the little-known simplicity within his relationship with his wife, Pastor Dorcas Gachagua.

Speaking during the launch of the Women Enterprise Fund and the second product of the Hustler Fund at KICC, Nairobi, Gachagua complemented his wife for living an easy-going life as a woman, even in the Generation Z era.

While disclosing how her calm demeanour led to their blissful union, the second-in-command revealed that he does not need to spend too much on his better half, as she herself does not demand too much from him. For instance, the Deputy President only funds her Ksh3,000 to style her hair.

“I had to look around before settling on Pastor Dorcas. She is calm.

“In fact, she does not demand a lot from me, I only give her Ksh3,000 to do her hair and she is always satisfied with that,” he added.

Pastor Dorcas had revealed in a previous interview how she met her husband after she bypassed the security surrounding an event he had attended.

"When the President stood, I ran across in line with where he was. I did not know how it happened as it was God's way of doing things. He (Moi) started coming towards me and I bumped into him.

"That is where I met my husband as he was in charge of the delegation," she noted.

It is worth it to note that the two had previously crossed paths at Kenyatta University (KU) in Nairobi years ago, recalling the tricks up his sleeves he used to romantically win over her.

"Back in the year 1987, I took a bus number 45 to hang around here, we would go to KM to hover around there, looking around to spot a spouse in a hall called Ruwenzori, I then found a sweet girl, pitched my case, spoke nicely to her, I even recited a poem to her, and with that, I was able to win her over," he remembered during the university's 52nd graduation ceremony in December 2022.

"I am grateful that this university gave me a wife in Dr Dorcas Rigathi, and I have not been disappointed for the last 33 years, she has not run away and has no single scratch."

Coincidentally, this was the same university where President Ruto chilled around the same spot and masterfully won over his wife, First Lady Rachel Ruto. Ruto and Gachagua had unanimously agreed that KU would be the place where they would wind up getting their future spouses.

“My return here today is momentous and very emotional, the president and I have an emotional attachment to this university, many years ago when we were at the University of Nairobi, there was a common agreement among us that if you wanted a good wife you go to KU, I do not know if that is true today," he revealed, much to the wild cheers of the graduating students in attendance.

"My boss William Ruto also hung around here and sorted himself, you guys do know that the president is a man full of schemes? He also found Rachel Ruto here at KU, our first lady of Kenya,” he concluded.

Gachagua has on several occasions intimated to be a family man in public and has never shied away from advising Kenyans on the importance of family.
