President William Ruto poked holes at Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga at the same time the latter held his public rally at the Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi.
Speaking on Monday, January 23, during the burial of Trade CS Moses Kuria’s sister Pauline Nyokabi in Gatundu South Kiambu County, President Ruto reminded Raila that he was using tactics that have not aged well.
He cited Raila's persistent statements concerning the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) servers, stating that they were opened during the August 9, 2022, general elections and that former chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, ensured that everything was in the public portal, including all 46,229 Form 34As from all polling stations in the country.
Ruto recommended that Raila change his game plan, indicating that the current regime has long since outsmarted them.
"I have heard them saying that they want the servers to be opened, I don't know what country they live in. Chebukati and IEBC opened the servers a long time ago; Form 34A from every polling station is in the portal, Form 34B is in the portal and Form 34C is in the portal, what server are they referring to that should be opened?
"These people are used to darkness and blackmail, right now we have illuminated them and they have run out of places to hide. They claim that they don't recognise whoever, I would like to ask them, my friends, why don't you change your tactics, even those old ones you're still using," he addressed.
Ruto further sought to remind Raila of similar attempts to dismiss opponents in the presidential race, who wound up beating him to the State House seat on four occasions, including attempts to reject Ruto's win, which was validated by the Supreme Court.
"You said Moi did not win, Moi became the President, you said Kibaki did not win, Kibaki became President. You said Uhuru did not win, he became President, will you be able to cope with this hustler?" he posed.
The Head of State further refuted plans of a handshake deal between him and Raila, claiming that the opposition is looking for sympathy with the rallies. On the matter of the handshake, Ruto advised Raila to stop pretending that they are not looking for one.
During the Kamukunji rally that happened at the same time as the funeral, Raila rejected the results of the 2022 general elections as well as the Kenya Kwanza government and refused to recognise Ruto as president.
"First, we as Azimio reject the 2022 election results. We cannot and will not recognize the Kenya Kwanza regime and we consider the Kenya Kwanza government illegitimate.
"We don’t recognize Mr William Ruto as President of Kenya and we equally don’t recognize any officials in the office with him," he said.
Raila further demanded that the entire infrastructure and the records of the 2022 elections at the IEBC be made public and audited by an impartial body and that "A forensic audit of the IEBC results and services is non-negotiable."
