US-based Kenyan comedienne and internet sensation Elsa Majimbo received a gift hamper from Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts, Ababu Namwamba in Los Angeles, California, where he flew for the 66th Grammy Awards.

During his visit on Sunday, February 4, he met Elsa at the Kenya Consulate and presented her with a gift bag branded "Talanta Hela."

While unpacking the gifts, Elsa marvelled at receiving a Maasai shuka as well as a box containing tea bags, remarking "I'm so proud of this tea, actually I have been drinking it for 22 years."

Also in the bag was fresh coffee packaged in a bag as the CS draped the Maasai shuka over her shoulders.

"Blanket, coffee and tea in this cold weather what more can you ask for, I look like a proper Kenyan too," Elsa expressed delight.

After receiving her gifts, the two took pictures in between the two stationed flags at the consulate as the team cheered them on.

Together with Ambassador Big Ted, CS Ababu had a brief meeting on how the duo could promote the Talanta Hela initiative.

While gracing the Grammy Awards, the CS managed to catch a performance by legendary American singer and songwriter, Tracy Chapman, who was performing her hit song Fast Car.

In his series of meetings targeting partnerships in the creative industry, CS Ababu was scheduled to meet with the representatives of Invention Studios, as he sought to progress the agreement signed in 2023, where the production house committed to produce 15 films as well as offer skills capacity development to content creators in Kenya.

CS Ababu, who also paid a visit at the 1500 Sound Academy, further discussed ways to collaborate in promoting Kenyan content globally and leveraging the initiative.

On September 23, 2023, Ababu signed a deal with Hollywood's Invention Studios that opened the door for the rapid growth of Kenya's film industry.

"The deal, signed at the Kenyan Consulate in Los Angeles by CS Ababu for Government of Kenya and Invention Studios CEO Nicky Weinstock, is the rapid realisation of a commitment made by H.E President William Ruto when he visited LA earlier this week, and disclosed that the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports was Instituting a comprehensive Incentives Framework to strategically position Kenya as a film making destination of choice," the Ministry of Sports stated in part.

The deal would see the government of Kenya extend a raft of Incentives to Invention Studios for ease of filming in Kenya. This included visa waivers, relaxed entry of filming equipment and ease of access to filming locations.

In return, Invention Studios would promote Kenya as a filming destination, shoot multiple movies in Kenya, and support the Talanta Hela Initiative by growing talents and promoting the protection of Kenyan creatives' intellectual property and access to royalties.
