Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has been admitted to the Interpeace Governing Board, which is the highest decision-making body of the organization.

Interpeace is an international organization that prevents violence and builds lasting peace. It is also accountable to the legal authority.

It boasts 27 years of experience working in various sectors worldwide including Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

With violent conflict tears apart societies and colours all relationships, Interpeace builds trust as the glue that brings societies back together.

"We are delighted to announce that Ambassador Amina Mohamed has been unanimously admitted to the Interpeace Governing Board. Amina's extensive experience in diplomacy and development will be a valuable asset to the board as we work to promote peace and security around the world," a statement by the former CS's foundation, Amina Live Foundation, read in part on Wednesday, December 6.

"Ambassador Amina Mohamed brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Interpeace Governing Board. We are confident that her leadership will help us advance our mission of building lasting peace in conflict-affected regions."

Her specific roles are yet to be known, but given her experience and expertise in diplomacy and international relations, she’s likely to contribute significantly to the strategic direction and impact of Interpeace’s efforts in promoting peace and stability globally.

Mohammed has been elected to important international positions and held significant government posts, adding to her distinguished career in both the public and foreign service.

She has had a distinguished diplomatic career, climbing through the ranks to become Ambassador, of the Permanent Mission to the Republic of Kenya in Geneva in 2000.

Since former President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over power to President William Ruto in September 2022, Mohamed has largely kept off the public limelight.

In August 2023, she was appointed to lead a team of Commonwealth election observers to Zimbabwe for the election on August 23.

In February 2023, she was part of the Commonwealth election observers team sent to Nigeria. The team comprised various personnel including politicians, diplomats, human rights advocates and election administrators.

She is among former CSs who have established themselves globally following the transition. In October 2023, former United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister, Tony Blair appointed former Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala to his organisation, Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI), as its Tourism Advisor.

Former Cabinet Secretary for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Joe Mucheru was in January 2023 appointed the second President of JUMO, a financial technology (fintech) company which is located in Cape Town, South Africa.
