The government has confirmed that President William Ruto has left the country for a two-day visit to Germany and France.

In a statement to newsrooms on Sunday, November 19, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed revealed that President Ruto embarked on an official visit to the two European countries between November 20 and 21, 2023.

"President William Ruto embarks on an official visit to Germany and France from November 20-21, 2023, focused on bolstering economic ties with Germany, France and the EU (European Union), while advocating for strong global consensus on climate action ahead of COP 28," Mohamed stated in part.

In Berlin, Germany, President Ruto will join other leaders at the Compact with Africa (CWA) high-level conference initiated by Germany during its tenure as Chair of G20.

The President will showcase Kenya as a leading investment destination in the region, make a case for strengthening economic ties between the EU and the East African Community, advance discussions on Labor Mobility with Germany, and consolidate Germany-Kenya cooperation on Green Energy initiatives, including in the production of green hydrogen and rehabilitation of Olkaria geothermal fields and grid stabilisation.

In Strasbourg, France, the Head of State will address the EU Parliament, the 705-member-strong legislative and policy organ of the European Union, where he will emphasise Kenya's role as the peace and democracy anchor of the region.

He will also expound on the country's vision on Climate action in light of the African leaders' Nairobi Declaration on Climate Change, and elaborate on the economic impact of deepening trade relations between Kenya and the EU that culminates in the signing and implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement in December 2023.

"The President will also hold a bilateral meeting with Roberta Metsola, President of the EU Parliament.

"President Ruto will also meet President Emmanuel Macron to discuss the implementation of vital infrastructural projects," Mohamed added.

The statement came hours after President Ruto expressed his intent to travel to Germany, part of the over 35 trips that he has made to 45 cities worldwide since assuming office in September 2022.

Speaking during a church service in Sotik, Bomet County, the Head of State revealed that his trip to the European country will be to improve bilateral agreements between the two countries.

"I have agreed with Bore (Labour CS, Florence) that we will sign bilateral labour agreements to export labour from Kenya. We want to export at least 3,000 Kenyans every week to go work worldwide and change their livelihoods and Kenya," he stated.

"I was in Saudi Arabia last week. My CS was at the Saudi Arabia Embassy as we had agreed. The German (Chancellor) was in Kenya three months ago. I am going to Germany tonight because he (the German President) had promised us 200,000 jobs, so I must go sort it out."

He however rubbished criticism regarding the series of trips that he has taken in his first year and the spending of public coffers on foreign travel at an exorbitant rate in an ailing economy.

Ruto expressed that he was travelling to other countries to network, sell Kenya as a country with the potential to the global space as well as secure opportunities for Kenyans.
