Former Citizen TV anchor, Jacque Maribe was on Thursday, March 14 spotted with Public Service Cabinet Secretary (CS) Moses Kuria despite the Public Service Commission (PSC) denying reports that she landed a job in his docket.

Maribe was accompanying the CS during his inspection tour of vocational training centres within Nakuru County.

The former TV journalist was seen walking side by side with Kuria who was also in the company of other county stakeholders including Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones.

The CS did not comment on Maribe's alleged new role in the Ministry even though she accompanied him to Nakuru to inspect the vocational training centres.

Here's the video:

She was filmed getting into a Volkswagen (VW) Passat from the co-driver's seat while taking a short glance at the cameraman capturing her face as she got in.

Maribe’s trip with the CS came hours after Viral Tea exposed a post on her Instagram stories tagging the CS, who was to touch base at Nakuru County from 9.00 am on Thursday for NYS-VTC Mashinani alongside Governor Susan Kihika.

While the former TV journalist has a habit of deleting posts that would spark controversy, she did not immediately pull down this one, having posted it on Wednesday, March 13, which would indicate that either the communication from PSC was yet to get to her, or she could have dismissed PSC's statement entirely.

Our spot checks at the time of publishing this article reveal that she was yet to pull down the post, seemingly relying on the Instagram stories feature which has posts disappearing automatically from the feed after every 24 hours.

PSC chairperson Anthony Muchiri clarified that Maribe did not land an appointment at Kuria’s ministry as the Head of Communication, adding that no such appointment was made, let alone the board receiving a request to employ her.

While insisting on the matter, the PSC Chairperson noted the position would be filled through a competitive recruitment process should a vacancy arise.

While offering further clarification, Muchiri referenced CS Moses Kuria's comments which he stated "It is true except that I am not the one who appointed her but the Public Service Commission."

The news of Jacque Maribe's appointment to a government job stirred a vibrant discussion on social media and came a month after she was acquitted in the murder case of businesswoman Monica Kimani.

Some questioned how fast she was able to secure her certificate of good conduct, necessary for the appointment, while others speculated about the vacancy and recruitment process, hinting at a lack of transparency and fairness in government appointments.

Reactions ranged from support for Maribe, with some seeing her appointment as a sign of redemption and support from powerful friends, to criticism and scepticism about the process and its implications for justice and meritocracy in public service.

Digital strategist, Dennis Itumbi, became the first prominent figure to congratulate Maribe on her appointment, which would have seen her be expected to provide comprehensive communication strategies aligned with the objectives of the Ministry of Public Service.
