Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has heaped praise on a whistleblower who allegedly furnished the Azimio la Umoja coalition with evidence claiming that party leader Raila Odinga was rigged in the August 9, 2022, general elections.

Speaking during a press briefing in Nairobi on Thursday, January 19, the Azimio principal termed the evidence as earth-shaking, one that casts doubts on the democracy of the country.

He further noted that the data raised questions regarding the credibility of the country's electoral systems, particularly the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with the focus shifted to the 2027 polls.

"Kenyans and the world woke up to the startling revelation of the 2022 presidential election results by IEBC whistleblowers.

"The data released by the whistleblowers is a bombshell that compels every Kenyan of goodwill to ask themselves if we still have a democracy. According to Azimio, the data calls into question the outcome of the presidential elections and the credibility and legitimacy of our entire electoral system and infrastructure," he addressed.

To ascertain their claims, Kalonzo announced that Azimio would issue its next move to the country once Raila returns from his one-week trip to South Africa.

He added that the coalition was in possession of more evidence supporting the claims of vote manipulation in the August 2022 elections which President William Ruto won against Raila.

"Azimio members will fully deliberate and discuss this data and provide the country with the next course of action.

"There are more revelations in our position that will unearth the filth in the 2022 general elections. This was not an election but a sham," he went on.

Kalonzo further hailed the whistleblowers for being patriotic in laying bare the activities that hit the coalition, claiming that they enjoy security under the law as they took a big risk amongst themselves.

"We want to commend the IEBC whistleblowers who now enjoy full protection under the law for bringing this to the public. These are the real heroes in our country

"The whistleblowers are gallant Kenyans and patriots who have taken this action, a great risk to themselves and set an excellent example of the true meaning of patriotism," he added.

The statement by Kalonzo came barely a day after Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni claimed that there was fresh rigging in the Mt Kenya region which changed the outcome of the hotly-contested elections, pointing out that that there were some constituencies that could not be absolutely verified.

Kioni went on to claim that Raila won the election with 8.2 million votes against Ruto's 5.9 million, meaning the former prime minister should have beaten his opponent by 2.3 million votes to be elected Kenya's fifth president.

"We’ve seen that 59% of the constituencies cannot be verified with absolute certainty. What can be verified is, Raila Odinga won the elections with 8,170,355 votes representing 57.53% of the votes cast.

"Ruto got 5,915,973 votes, representing 41.66%," he addressed.

Kioni then alleged that he had gone through a research report by Vanguard Africa, which he stated is a non-profit organization, and found that over 100 constituencies had their results verified and that they were far from those announced by former IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati.

President Ruto was declared the winner with a total vote count of 7,176,141 (50.49 per cent) against Raila with a total of 6,942,930 (48.85 per cent).
