It would seem that Kisii County is becoming a notorious ground for some of the shocking cases that have rocked the country, with the recent tales bordering on violence.

The latest bizarre event involving the county happened on Friday, January 6 after a middle-aged man beheaded his two daughters in Kiobegi Sub location, Kisii County in shocking circumstances.

The suspect, Mandera Ontita, was alleged to have beheaded the two minors and dumped their bodies on the farm.

Teresa Mandera, the mother of the deceased children, said that during the time of the incident, she was on the farm when she came across her two daughters who had their heads cut off.

"That's when I screamed to alert my neighbours, unfortunately, Ontita chased me with the intention to kill me, I ran for the safety of my life," she said.

The mother added that the neighbours came and alerted the police officers. According to her, the other three children were lucky to have survived as they were at the stream fetching water when the incident occurred.

The deceased children were below ten years. Ombati Nyakundi, an eye witness corroborated neighbours' sentiments that Ontita was mentally challenged.

Confirming the incident, OCPD Kipkemboi Kipkulei Nyamache said they arrested Ontita and took him into police custody as they conducted investigations into the incident.

Kenyans were only beginning to recover from another shocking tale which occurred in the last month of 2022. The case of three-year-old Junior Sagini, a boy whose eyes were gouged out by unidentified assailants in Kisii County drew nationwide uproar and the attention of President William Ruto.

"Please let's be mindful of our children. I'm surprised to hear that there are some parents who are putting their children's lives in danger.

"We have seen that there is one parent in Kisii who has gouged out the eyes of a child, something that is very shocking. I don't know which type of devil is possessing a human being to the point that he is harming a child that does not have a sense of guilt, a child who neither has an error nor is doing any wrong to anyone in life," he addressed.

The three suspects linked to the gouging out of Baby Sagini's eyes; Florence (Pacifica) Nyakerario, Alex Ochogo, and Rael Nyakerario were charged with attempted murder after they appeared before Resident Magistrate Christine Ogweno at the Kisii Law Courts on December 23, 2022, 10 days since the incident occurred.

Rael had accused Pacifica and Ochogo of plotting to kill Baby Sagini over a piece of ancestral land he was to inherit when he comes of age, claiming that he was a stepson who doesn't deserve to inherit the piece of land, whose value Sagini was too young to comprehend.

Police sources had revealed that Pacifica had abducted Baby Sagini by carrying him in a sack and taking him to the undisclosed location where she and Ochogo gouged out the baby's eyes. In addition, the two beat him up and dumped him in the family's maize plantation believing that he was dead, but fortunately, Baby Sagini was found alive, though unconscious.

Another case saw a middle-aged woman has been released on a Ksh50,000 bond after she allegedly chopped off his husband's genitals before stabbing him in the abdomen following a domestic squabble.

The accused woman, Grace Oyaro, was alleged to have chopped off the genitals of his husband, Eliud Kepha on December 31, 2022, at Nyanchwa estate in Kisii County. She was charged with the offence of grievous harm contrary to Section 234 of the Penal Code.
