The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has listed a number of regions in the country expected to receive rainfall this week.

In its weather update on Tuesday, November 1, KMD listed Nairobi and Coast regions among the areas that will receive rainfall from November 1 to Monday, November 7.

The forecast came as some parts of Nairobi, according to observations by Viral Tea, had begun receiving rainfall from the mid-morning hours after several weeks of dry weather.

Here is a detailed list of areas to receive rainfall this week:

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Central and South Rift Valley  (Kisii, Nyamira, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, West-Pokot, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay,  Busia, Migori, Baringo, Nakuru and Narok Counties)

Mornings are likely to be generally sunny. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur over few places occasionally spreading to several places. Night showers are expected over a few places.

North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties)

Days are expected to be generally sunny and nights partly cloudy. However, occasional night showers may occur over few places during the first half of the forecast period.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties)

Cloudiness, at times accompanied by rains, is expected in the morning giving way to sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over few places.

North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties)

Morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are expected over few places.

The South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties)

Mornings are likely to be generally sunny though rains may occur over few places.

The Coast (Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties)

Morning and early afternoon showers are expected over few places. Nights are likely to be generally partly cloudy.

Areas that will receive rainfall between 21-50mm include; Western parts of Kenya (Busia, Bungoma and Kakamega), and the Mt Kenya region in Meru and Tharaka Nithi.

Those that will receive between 11-20mm of rainfall include; Isiolo, Nyanza region, Isiolo, Mandera, Kwale, Mombasa and Kilifi.

The rest of the country will receive between 2-10mm of rainfall except some parts of Taveta, Kitui, Kajiado, Machakos and Wajir which will not receive any rainfall.

The rains come as a relief to Kenyans as the country has been experiencing its worst drought in 40 years.
