“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 (1) of the National Government Co-ordination Act (Cap. 127), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration establishes the following administrative units as Service Delivery Co-ordination Units," the notice read in part.
“To improve service delivery to the residents, three subregions have been created in Nairobi. The creation of Nairobi North, Nairobi East, and Nairobi West Service Delivery Coordination Units has been made necessary by the high population of the capital city, now estimated at more than five million.”
What Will The New Regions Cover?
The Nairobi North Sub-Region will encompass the sub-counties of Roysambu, Ruaraka, Kasarani, Kamukunji, and Mathare.
Nairobi West Sub-Region will consist of Lang’ata, Kibra, Dagoretti North, Dagoretti South, and Westlands.
Nairobi East Sub-Region will cover Embakasi East, Embakasi West, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi Central, Njiru, and Makadara.
Meanwhile, as part of ongoing efforts to improve National Government Administration operations, Murkomen announced the promotion of six officers to County Commissioners.
He elevated Joseph Mwangi Wamuti (Tana River), Linda Adhiambo Okola (Taita Taveta), David Ntawuasa Saruni (West Pokot), Michael Yator (Kajiado), Jeremiah Mwai Gicheru (Kericho), and Peter Mwangi Maina (Vihiga).
The CS also revealed that serving County Commissioners have been transferred to new stations based on their skills and experience. He noted that the moves are “part of the government's approach in addressing the various security and service delivery concerns raised by Kenyans during the recent Jukwaa la Usalama public forums.”
Murkomen emphasized that the changes take effect immediately, with the promoted officials expected to assume their new roles without delay. “The changes take effect with immediate effect. Congratulations and Godspeed to the promoted officials as you embark on your new roles,” he affirmed.
He added, “We are committed to bringing services closer to wananchi through deliberate decentralisation and efficiency enhancement,” underscoring the government’s dedication to improving service delivery.
The adjustments come amid rising security demands nationwide as Kenya approaches the 2027 general elections.
