The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has summoned Daadab Member of Parliament Farah Maalim over controversial remarks targeted at Gen Zs during the recent anti-government demonstrations.

NCIC announced on its social media platforms that the lawmaker is required to appear before the commission on Thursday, July 11 at 11.00 am at its offices on the 17th Floor, Britam Tower, Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.

"Pursuant to Section 27 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act No. 12 of 2008, the Commission is investigating utterances made by the MP in Somali language, on the Gen Z demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024.

"The utterances are likely to incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination, and affect harmonious coexistence between groups of different political affiliations in Kenya, contrary to Section 13 (1) (a) of the NCI Act," stated NCIC in part.

The commission compelled Maalim to appear before it to assist with the aforementioned ongoing investigations.

"Failure to appear in person at the said place, date, and time, is an offence as provided under Section 63 (c) as read with Section 63 (e) of the NCI Act," the commission cautioned.

Despite the summons, the MP had previously maintained that the video that went viral capturing his remarks was manipulated as a political weapon to be used against him.

Backing up his claims, Maalim further accused unidentified people from Somalia of digitally altering the clip in response to chiming in on the politics of Somalia.

“The video making the rounds has been edited. It's all cutting and pasting, taking a word from here and putting it together.

“It is Somalis who basically would do that, for other reasons, because I also weighed in on the politics of Somalia,” the Wiper Party elected legislator claimed.

The parliamentarian however did not deny the part where he remarked that Gen Z was attempting a coup against a democratically elected government.

The remarks nonetheless sparked uproar nationwide and prompted KTN News anchor, Ken Mijungu, to announce on his X account that he had banned Maalim from being hosted on his shows...permanently.
