Just hours after news broke on Saturday, April 27 about renowned news anchor Victoria Rubadiri's exit from Citizen TV and join the Cable News Network (CNN), NTV news anchor Olive Burrows is emerging as Rubadiri's possible replacement.

Rubadiri's exit has left a huge hole in the anchoring division at the country's largest TV station, one that would be tough to fill for a replacement for the seasoned award-winning journalist, who was well known for presenting the Sunday Live bulletin alongside acclaimed media personality, Jeff Koinange.

Reports have since emerged that Burrows is lined up to replace Rubadiri in the role, a matter which would see Royal Media Services (RMS) lure her away from the Nation Media Group (NMG). Should they be confirmed, it would be a case of de ja vu as Rubadiri in 2018 joined RMS from NMG.

Viral Tea contacted reliable sources privy to media space matters regarding the reports but no certain response was forthcoming. Burrows is reported to be serving her notice and is set to leave the Twin Towers for the Dennis Pritt Road, Kilimani-based media house.

Olive Burrows Career

Burrows joined NTV in May 2018, having served as a journalist at Capital FM, where she was the only scribe in the whole country to interview former U.S. President Barack Obama during his visit to Kenya in 2015.

She began her career as a freelance magazine writer during her studies at Daystar University, then joined Capital FM news desk as a reporter where she rose through the ranks to associate editor.

In 2018, she left Capital FM for NTV where she has been presenting the prime time news bulleting and also hosting AM Live show, building a career profile for herself to the point of being courted by rival media houses.

Personal Life

Her full name is Olive Kalekye Burrows and she has a Kamba mother and a father of mixed British and Tanzanian origin.

As an only child, she cherishes her connection to her mother's lineage, although she acknowledges her broader family ties such as half brothers & sisters. She also wishes she had learned the Kamba language early in childhood.

As a self-professed foodie, Olive finds solace and joy in the culinary arts, with cooking serving as her means of therapy, other than satisfaction of her insatiable appetite for experimenting with new recipes.

Burrows’ favourite comfort food is chips and chicken. Following her historic interview with Obama, she toasted the occasion with masala chips and chicken.

Despite her public role, Olive maintains a reserved demeanour, preferring to keep her personal life private.

However, she does love literature and cherishes authors like Chimamanda Adichie, Malcolm Gladwell, and Khaled Hosseini, whose distinct writing styles resonate with her. Despite the crazy schedule that comes with working in media, she does find time to satisfy her relentless appetite for reading.

Venturing beyond the confines of her home, Burrows finds fulfilment in journalistic pursuits that offer glimpses into diverse narratives. These include her fondness for Rondo Retreat in Kakamega Forest which showcases her appreciation for immersive experiences, with aspirations to explore the cultural treasures of Lamu and Zanzibar.

Despite her penchant for exploration, Burrows relishes the comforts of home. A movie lover at heart, she favors cinematic experiences shared with friends, while her eclectic taste in music, nurtured during matatu commutes, reflects her openness to diverse cultural influences.
