TV47 Anchor Named By Kalonzo For Special Role

TV47 news anchor, political and parliamentary reporter, Elizabeth Mutuku, alias Lizah, has been nominated by Wiper party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, to the Senate.

Mutuku is amongst an extensive list of nominees by the former Vice President, with a focus on party members from minority groups in the Senate and National Assembly.

Speaking to Viral Tea, she admitted that she was unaware of the development but nonetheless expressed her gratitude for being chosen for the new milestone.

She has held multiple roles as a broadcast journalist and reporter as well as news anchor at ATG Radio where she worked for seven years, that is between 2014 and 2021.

She joined the TV station under Cape Media Limited, an affiliate of Mount Kenya University, in July 2019 where she rose to become one of the popular anchors of the current generation.

Mutuku holds an Associate's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Nairobi Aviation College and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies from St. Paul's University in Limuru.

She is currently playing a leading role in the presidential debate series and is an official of the Parliamentary Journalist’s Association.

Another journalist nominated by Kalonzo alongside Mutuku is Royal Media Services (RMS) Ltd's Jacqueline Kalenga. She is a presenter with Musyi FM hosting the Aikii weekly gospel show touching on what's new in the gospel industry.

The two will enhance the gender ratio in the Senate, with Kalonzo's first nomination being Abubakar Ahmed Talib, a 51-year-old businessman of Kenyan-Arab descent who will represent ethnic minorities if picked.

Esther Saina Karbwali, a 37-year-old clerk who featured as a Jubilee Party nominee for Kajiado County Assembly in 2017, is another one of the nominees.

In the Senate, Wiper chose their party Secretary General Shakila Abdalla. A Bajun who will represent workers if picked by the electoral body.

Wiper’s current nominee to the Senate Sylvia Kasanga is second on the list, followed by lawyer Eunice Lumallas. Mohamed Zakir Hussein is the only Wiper nominee to represent persons with disability in Senate.

Kalonzo's Nairobi Mr Fix It, Roy Kivusyu is number three on the National Assembly list. For Senate youth nominees, the Wiper leader has gone for 27-year-old farmer Joshua Mutunga as number one with Mutuku following in second.

For marginalized groups, Musyoka has picked Waziri Bakari, Ikrn Ali Dubat, John Kimanthi and Rose Kathoka in the Kitui county assembly.

Other nominees include political operative Dee Kivuva to represent workers alongside environmentalist Pollyne Anyango Owoko, Ben Ngumbau and Farhiya Haji Abdi in Machakos. Makueni has current MCA Urbanus Wambua, businesswoman Elizabeth Muthike and Lucas Wambua.

In Nairobi County, Kalonzo has chosen his close relative Jane Muasya as the first pick. Muasya is currently a nominated MCA in Nairobi County Assembly.
