Meanwhile National Police Service (NPS) spokesperson, Bruno Shioso confirmed that Sharif was shot and killed by a police officer.

More details regarding the fatal shooting of popular Pakistani journalist Arshad Sharif on Sunday, October 23 have emerged.

A police report seen by Viral Tea revealed that the vehicle in which the deceased travelled was shot nine times, four of them on the right side of its boot, by a contingent of General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were responding to a carjacking and abduction incident.

The vehicle, upon probing by the police, had one bullet hole on the left side of the windscreen, the side where Sharif was seated at the time of the incident.

"Upon scrutiny of the said motor vehicle, it had a bullet hole on the left side of the windscreen on the side the deceased was sitting, two bullet holes on the rear left back screen, one bullet hole on the rear right door, four holes right side of the boot and one front right tyre that had been deflated," the report read in part.

Sharif, aged 50, was with his brother, Khurram Ahmed when they bypassed a roadblock at Kiserian-Magadi Road on their way back to Nairobi.

The report also corroborated initial details that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Starehe circulated a report of theft of a carjacking which also saw the owner's son abducted after he left him inside the car.

He reported the incident to Pangani Police Station where the officers located the son at Olosuritia ACK Church within Kiserian. He was also located at the Kiserian dam estate and later at Olepolos Hills.

"From the scene that was near Tinga Market, it was established that Kurram Ahmed and his brother now deceased were driving along Kuenia-Kamukuru rough road and before they reached the Kiserian-Magadi road, they found the road blocked using small stones and they decided to pass them. It was then they heard gunshots towards their vehicle directed from the front and rear," it added.

Khurram later alerted Naqar Ahmed, also a Pakistan national who resided at Tinga, to inform him about the incident. He advised him to pass by his place but upon arrival at the main gate, Sharif was found dead with a gunshot wound on the head which had penetrated from the back of his head and exited at the front side of his head.

The report had left out details of a brief chase that ensued before the shooting. Sharif's driver was injured after the car they were travelling in rolled and was taken to hospital.

He later revealed to police that he and his deceased colleague were developers and were on their way to a site in Magadi. Sharif's body has since been taken to Chiromo mortuary awaiting post-mortem, some 78 kilometres from where police stated the shooting happened.

News of the incident went viral as far as Pakistan where the journalist was known by many, and Sharif's wife, Javeria Siddique, was among the first to react to the shooting.

"I lost my friend, husband and my favourite journalist Arshad Sharif today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.

"Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking pls don't share our family pics, personal details and his last pictures from the hospital. Remember us in your prayers," noted Siddique.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has since deployed a rapid response team to Kajiado County to investigate the matter which has since ignited uproar across the country.

Sharif had reportedly flown to Kenya from London after parting ways with his former employer, Ary News, after an interview which was aired on the channel on August 8 featuring PTI leader Dr Shahbaz Gill.
