Sakaja Denies Meeting Gaucho, Swaleh Over Nairobi Protests & Paying Them Ksh 2 Million
The allegations suggested that Sakaja held a meeting with several figures—including Gaucho, a Nairobi MP, an MCA, and Swaleh

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has dismissed claims that he secretly met with Gaucho and Swaleh to coordinate disruptions during city protests through the deployment of hired goons.
The allegations suggested that Sakaja held a meeting with several figures—including Gaucho, a Nairobi MP, an MCA, and Swaleh—where he allegedly handed out Ksh2 million to fund goons tasked with attacking protestors using machetes and clubs.
However, Sakaja quickly hit back, denying any involvement and stating he was out of Nairobi at the time. He backed his statement with evidence showing he was in Lugari and did not attend or organise the alleged meeting.

“Such blatant lies. On Sunday, I was in Lugari for Church and came back to Nairobi on Monday afternoon through Kitale. Ticket below. I have not seen Gaucho since he attended the Mukuru Housing Launch or Swaleh in many months,” Sakaja clarified.
The county boss, to prove his sentiments, posted an airline ticket on his X account revealing that on Monday, June 16, at 10.55 am, he flew out of Kitale bound for Nairobi, thus dismissing allegations that he was in the city on Sunday and had carried out the meeting as alleged.
Gaucho also rejected the accusations, stating he wasn’t even in the country at the time and deemed the claims of meeting the governor as completely false.
On Tuesday, June 17, chaos broke out in Nairobi’s CBD as youths took to the streets demanding justice for Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody.
What started as a peaceful protest quickly turned violent, with looting and clashes between the demonstrators and police. Goons joined in, vandalising and stealing from businesses.
Governor Sakaja doubled down on his earlier stance, saying the violent groups had no ties to his office and condemned their actions as criminal.
He called on the National Police Service (NPS) to arrest those involved, adding that the gangs had been brought in from outside Nairobi.
“We categorically dissociate ourselves from any gangs, militias, or politically sponsored groups that exploit demonstrations to engage in criminal activity. We strongly condemn the destruction of public and private property witnessed last week, perpetrated by hired goons brought in from outside Nairobi,” he stated.
