Super Metro Reveals Cause Of Thika Road Accident
Initial reports suggested that no casualties resulted from the accident, though authorities have yet to confirm this.

UPDATE: Super Metro has addressed the early morning accident along Thika Road involving one of its buses, pinning blame on the white saloon car, which was ferrying local brew along the busy road.
"Preliminary information indicates that the accident was caused by a white saloon car, which was reportedly overloaded with jerrycans of Muratina and was swerving carelessly across the road, as observed by multiple drivers in the vicinity," disclosed Super Metro in a statement.
"The saloon car collided with the side of the Super Metro bus, forcing the bus driver to take evasive action. Unfortunately, while attempting to avoid further collision, the bus veered off the road and landed in a ditch."
The SACCO added that the incident was promptly reported to the authorities, and Thika Police Station is currently handling the matter. "We urge anyone seeking official details about the incident to direct inquiries to Thika Police Station for accurate and updated information," added Super Metro, which reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations.

Eyewitnesses provided unverified reports stating that the driver of the ill-fated bus was speeding excessively and recklessly overtaking other vehicles.
As news of the accident circulated, Kenyans turned to social media to express their frustrations over Super Metro's operations and conduct. Many users pointed out the timing of the crash and the ongoing challenges facing the company.
"Super metro is still causing accidents. Avoid super metro if you want to live long!" one X user commented. Another one added "Hizi supermetro zitatumaliza bana. (these Super Metros will finish us)."
Super Metro made headlines recently after its operating license was revoked by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) following concerns raised by the public.
Before that, Super Metro was in the spotlight over a March 12 incident that involved a tout allegedly pushing a passenger out of a moving bus due to an unpaid fare.
This suspension led to hundreds of their vehicles being taken for inspection after initial back and forth with NTSA in the wake of the decision, and their drivers being taken through a sensitisation program.
The suspension was lifted by the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB), albeit temporarily. On Thursday, March 27, TLAB extended the orders that lifted the suspension after NTSA asked for more time to file their responses, and directed that the matter be mentioned on April 7, 2024, allowing Super Metro to continue with its day-to-day operations.
This accident came hours after the National Police Service (NPS) emphasized that road safety is a collective responsibility, urging drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, boda boda riders, and passengers to adhere to traffic laws and regulations.
NPS on Friday, March 28, announced an extensive operation plan that would see the intensity of enforcement checks heightened to ensure that all motorists follow the rules of the road, ahead of increased traffic movement during the Easter holidays.
