Rapper Mario TJ Kasela, better known as Trio Mio, explained why he refused to reveal the actual grade he scored in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.

Speaking to YouTuber Nicholas Kioko, moments after landing from Dubai at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday, March 6, the Cheza Kama Wewe hitmaker rebuked Kenyans for being too focused on his life instead of their own lives.

Clarifying that he didn't refuse to declare his results, he added that Kenyans recognise him because of his music and not his grades.

"I didn't refuse to announce my results. Do you all want to pay my university fees? Come on, concentrate on your lives.

"You didn't know me because of books, you knew me because of music and I know I'm good at what I'm doing. It's my life and you cannot control me," he stated.

Reports had surfaced as early as Friday, January 20 with social media users speculating that Trio Mio was among 75,545 male students who scored D in the exams.

However, in a statement, his mother, Irma Sofia noted that her son had done well in the exams, whose results were released by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu.

She also played cagey with Trio Mio's fans regarding the actual results, assuring them that he did well in the exams.

"Now I won't breathe because KCSE results have been released? Relax.

"The boy did his best and am very proud of him. And those speculating a D, I'm sorry," she said.

The artist also shared the same statement released by his mother on his social media platforms.

There were also reports that Trio Mio scored a Grade A, which emerged as a section of Kenyans called out those who were trolling him.

The artist meanwhile spoke after receiving the results, praising his fellow candidates for doing their best.

"Congratulations to all candidates receiving results today. We all did our best to get to this milestone.

"Ndo life inaanza na nawawishia kismat in all you intend to do next (Life is just beginning and I'm wishing you the best in all you intend to do next)," he stated.

In a diss track aimed at Kiss 100 FM presenters Chito Ndhlovu and Cyd Wambui, he addressed the sad situation affecting many Kenyan youths who complete their studies and get good marks but fall victim to an economy that has for years failed to create jobs that not only are capable of accepting their good grades but also sustain them in life.

Trio also noted that at the end of the day, the grades one gets will not put food on the table, as a way of advising youth not to give up on their dreams as someday they will be profitable.
