A netizen named Kristine Koriko on Monday, February 5 called out the employer of a popular restaurant in Nairobi while narrating how she was physically assaulted after the restaurant's management had allegedly refused to pay her dues.

Koriko was responding to her sister, Adelaide, who advocated for a change in workplace norms amidst rising cases of physical abuse in offices that oftentimes go unreported or are underreported.

"Silent No More: Exposing the Harsh Reality of Workplace Physical Abuse. It's time for change and create workplaces where safety and well-being are non-negotiable priorities. Let’s foster a culture of empathy, respect, and zero tolerance for violence," she wrote on X.

Kristine shared a video showing the male employer threatening to fire the accountant if an attempt was made to pay her what the restaurant owed her.

Here is the video:

"You pay her a cent, you're fired. You heard me? Take whatever you want...get out," the man barked.

While taking his seat, the man appeared to be irked by the move by Adelaide to record the entire altercation as well as that of Kristine to enter his office in the company of her younger sister, who interjected on grounds that the man was being addressed rudely.

"Listen, this is a private office, get out," ordered the man, who rose from his seat in anger as Kristine persuaded him to pay her dues, but the employer responded, "You're not getting a cent, not one shilling."

The man proceeded to utter unprintable insults towards Kristine while raising his voice, shouting "Do you know who (slur) I am?" before turning to Adelaide and appearing to knock off her phone.

Kristine explained that she was hired as the social media manager at the restaurant and had agreed with her employer to terminate the contract after two months as she had found greener pastures.

"The first month she paid me on time. She had agreed to pay me on Saturday so I communicated with her to send my payment.

"So I took my sister and went. Getting to the office I wait almost an hour and no one shows up. He shows up and starts shouting ati who the **** are you!?? You don’t have a contract you stupid ***** then physically starts to assault me and my sister as she is watching," she added.

Kristine further shared screenshots of the conversation between her and her employer at the restaurant on WhatsApp, with the employer firing a heated response, stating that she would not disrupt her schedule for her sake and reminding her that the accountant had allegedly indicated the day she makes payments.

"If your job was even half good we would have felt the need to go out of schedule for you. Wait for your money like the rest. If you want to get verbal come to the office and talk it out. Until then wait for your money," the employer responded to her.

Kristine then revealed that the employer had sent her the accountant's number, but upon reaching out, she was informed that she only makes payments on Monday and Thursday, thus contradicting her employer's sentiments earlier.

She claimed that the employer resorted to insulting her and recommended that she discuss the terms of payment with her at her office.

Kristine then revealed that the employer assaulted her and her sister and kicked them out of the restaurant, after which they waited for their mother who accompanied them to the police station to report the matter.

Her account of events sparked uproar across social media platforms with netizens demanding action to be taken against the restaurant, which is yet to issue an official statement at the time of publishing this article.
