Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua and opposition chief Raila Odinga were captured walking side by side with each other at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa on the way to boarding a plane in Nairobi.

A video seen by Viral Tea showed them walking through the departure gate on their way to boarding the flight, seemingly engaged in harmless and animated conversation with security officers right behind them.

Raila can be seen expounding on a point and appeared to have said something that made Gachagua smile.

The two bumped into each other at the VIP lounge in Moi International Airport in the coastal city as they waited to catch a flight back to Nairobi, according to Makau Mutua, the Spokesperson of the Raila Odinga Campaign Secretariat.

He added that the two ran into each other by coincidence and exchanged pleasantries before they left for Nairobi.

“Honourable Rigathi Gachagua and Honourable Raila Odinga bumped into each other at the VIP lounge of the Moi International Airport in Mombasa.

"Both were travelling back to Nairobi in the morning. I understand they exchanged pleasantries," Makau told The Standard.

The two had travelled to Mombasa for different reasons. Gachagua was in attendance at the Council of Governors (CoG) conference in Mombasa while Raila attended the inauguration ceremony of Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir on Thursday, September 15.

Earlier, Gachagua revealed that he held great respect for Raila, despite being the opponent of President William Ruto in the August 9 general elections.

"We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens. I was delighted this morning to have a tete-a-tete with our senior citizen former Prime Minister Rt Hon Raila Amolo Odinga in Mombasa," Gachagua said on his official Facebook account.

Raila, during Nassir's inauguration, explained that he had to leave the country on the day of Ruto's swearing-in, to Zanzibar where he recuperated after hurting his face in a treadmill accident.

"I went to recuperate in Zanzibar. I took my wife, children and grandchildren out of the shock they got," he stated.

"I came this morning from Zanzibar and arrived later, I was not able to be with you at the swearing-in (of Abdulswamad), but here I am."

The 2022 presidential aspirant congratulated the governor for winning the election, claiming that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) intentionally postponed the Mombasa gubernatorial election to manipulate the election.

Raila travelled to a parliamentary group meeting with Azimio la Umoja leaders. The Kenya Kwanza Coalition was also slated to convene a parliamentary group meeting to deliberate on a strategy to divide house leadership slots.
