A young woman was left enraged and complaining that she was forced to find her way home, having been allegedly abandoned by a man she was with in the late night hours.

In an undated video that surfaced on Friday, August 25, the woman could be seen walking along the streets of Athi River wearing her half vest and clutching her boots, in the company of a friend.

As the friend was complaining about the nature of her messy hair, the enraged woman advised Kenyan women to be wary of men's habits, claiming they could change their plans in a split second.

She lamented that she walked for hours along the street in the middle of the night, without knowledge as to where they were heading next nor if a matatu would stop by them so that they could return home.

Here is the video:

In addition, the woman seemed to express fear for her life when she revealed that they were almost attacked by thugs.

"Guys, I have a...you can see I've removed my shoes...I'm walking barefooted, do you know why? Because of men!

"Take another 24 hours to fear men, I'm telling you, fear this gender. Imagine, I'm walking in Athi River without shoes, I don't even know where the matatu stage is...someone almost attacked us. What do you men use to think?" she angrily posed.

Her sentiments drew mixed reactions on social media from netizens, some appearing to support the man's move.

However, others criticised the woman for not planning in advance on how to get home, including using taxi services such as Uber to ensure their safety.

"Never go out if you can’t afford the night out hata kama Unaenda na billionaires (even if you're in the company of billionaires)," one user commented.

"Can’t afford an Uber and you still decided to go!? Girls let’s learn to have some shame," another user reprimanded.

Tips for a safe night out

According to the Government of Western Australia's Department of Health, logic indicates that you should make sure you have enough money for food, water and a taxi or public transport home before going on a night out.

You are also advised that you carry identification cards, such as a student card, your driver’s licence, national ID or passport for easy identification in case of any major incidences.

Keep your mobile phone with you and before leaving, let people at home (such as your family members) know what time to expect you back.

During the night out, keep an eye on your friends and make sure they are ok. Never leave your friends in case something goes wrong and you, or they, need to get help.

Getting home safely after a night out

Never get in a car if the driver has been drinking alcohol or taking other drugs.

If you have driven your own car and end up drinking alcohol or taking other drugs while you are out, leave your car where it is and find a safe way home with a sober friend or family member, or by taxi or public transport.

If don’t have a suitable way to get home, you may need to call a sober friend or a parent for help. They may be annoyed at the time but it is more important that you get home safely.
