Bomet Woman Representative Linet Chepkorir alias Toto has been sued by two residents of the county at the Employment and Labor Relations Court in Nairobi.

According to a lawsuit filed by the residents; Collins Barno and Stanley Kiprotich at the courts, Toto is accused of nepotism when she hired a section of her family members.

The first-time lawmaker who rose to fame across the country has been accused of favouring her immediate family members when it came to job opportunities in her office.

While filing the suit, Barno and Kiprotich accused her of hiring six relatives out of 15 staff attached to her office who take home a total of Ksh612,000 monthly out of the Ksh811,000 allocated for staff salaries.

Toto is also accused of not adhering to minimum requirements, which include; gender, transparency, fair competition, merit and integrity.

"While appointing the six persons Chepkorir totally ignored the gender principle which is a requirement in public appointments as the dictates of the constitution since there are only three women out of fifteen staff she has employed in her office," the petitioners alleged.

The residents also claimed that Toto committed nepotism by hiring her relatives as well as breaking the rule of law in the administration of the public office.

"Unless the said appointments are quashed by an order of the court, it will set a bad precedent in the country, where public institutions and appointments will be made unlawfully and irregularly on the basis of partisan consideration instead of strict compliance with the legal requirements," the petitioners added.

"Some of the appointed support staff of Bomet County women Representative have serious integrity issues and are not fit to serve as public officers. They were not cleared by the EACC before appointment as required by law."

The residents want the court to rule that Toto’s appointment of six people as support staff in the office of the Bomet County Women's Representative is null and void, unlawful, and unconditional.

The alleged six persons are Bett Kipkirui (county manager office of women representative), Dominic Mutai (deputy manager), Sheila Chep’ngeno (county coordinator), Josephat Kiplangat (field officer), Pius Kiplangat (communications officer) and Emmanuel Kipkorir (media personnel).

This comes a day after Toto rattled the Azimio la Umoja coalition after she slammed party leader, Raila Odinga for his protest rallies against the President William Ruto-led government.

"I would like to say one thing to Raila, this old man has been demonstrating even before I was born. He started in 1997, 2002 and 2007, now he is in 2022 and he claims to have been rigged in the general elections.

"I would like to state that the people of Kenya voted for William Ruto as the fifth president," she addressed.

Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya slammed Toto over her remarks and went to the extent of threatening to impregnate her.
