WhatsApp users will soon have the power to possess two accounts on the same app in changes announced by Meta Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuckerberg, who runs the company which owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram announced that the new changes will see users switch between accounts at the same time.

"Switch between two accounts on WhatsApp. Soon you'll be able to have two WhatsApp accounts on one phone within the app," he announced on his Facebook page.

To prove this, Zuckerberg shared a screenshot of the changes being tested out, showcasing how easy it is for him to switch between his personal and work accounts.

It is worth it to note that both of his accounts were registered under two different numbers.

The exact dates for the rollout of the new changes are yet to be known. It is also not known whether the changes will be announced in phases across the globe or fully.

The new changes will serve Kenyans perfectly, given that some of them have had to use the WhatsApp Business application to separate between their personal, work and business engagements.

Others have made use of the Dual Accounts feature in some phones which allows them to use a copy of the installed WhatsApp application on their phone while under the same account.

At the moment, users currently use one account on one phone for WhatsApp, though they can open another account on another device.

"If you have a dual SIM phone, please note that you still must choose one number to verify with WhatsApp. There is no option to have a verified WhatsApp account with two different phone numbers.

"If you attempt to frequently switch your WhatsApp account between different devices, at a certain point, you may be blocked from re-verifying your account. Please don't repeatedly switch between different devices and numbers," WhatsApp guidelines read.

In April this year, WhatsApp introduced the ability to use the same account on multiple phones.

"A feature highly requested by users, now you can link your phone as one of up to four additional devices, the same as when you link with WhatsApp on web browsers, tablets and desktops. Each linked phone connects to WhatsApp independently, ensuring that your personal messages, media, and calls are end-to-end encrypted, and if your primary device is inactive for a long period, we automatically log you out of all companion devices.

"Linking phones as companion devices makes messaging easier. Now you can switch between phones without signing out and pick up your chats where you left off. Or if you’re a small business owner, additional employees are now able to respond to customers directly from their phones under the same WhatsApp Business account," WhatsApp stated in its blog post.
