Kenyan TikTok content creator Steve Alvin Muthomi, also known as the King of Mugaka and username Aq9ine, has revealed that his story of eating a spider to the point of being hospitalised was a hoax.

Speaking to YouTuber Nicholas Kioko on Sunday, July 24, Muthomi stated that he was actually bitten by the spider on his way to work, despite him claiming in a video he posted on TikTok that he ate the spider.

He challenged Kioko's conscience on whether or not he would actually consume the spider, noting that it possesses hair all over its body that would be a deterrent to predators.

"I didn't eat the spider, it bit me. No wonder I keep saying, don't believe everything you see on social media.

"I did not eat the spider. Would you eat a spider? It has hair all over its legs and body that can prick you, would you eat something like that?" he posed.

While setting the record straight on the story that drew nationwide headlines on Saturday, July 16, Muthomi noted that the spider bit him on his hand, the effects of it manifesting into an allergic reaction that spread all across his body.

He added that he was experiencing a lot of tension from the spider bite since the swelling was spreading all over his body to the point he scratched his skin several times.

"I was tensing, the spider bit me here (showing his hand where he was bitten) and I was on my way to work with my foreman. We work at a construction company, I was bitten in Chogoria, at the hardware shop, on my hand.

"That tension that I was swelling, you have no idea what I was feeling. Have you ever felt like scratching your two body parts at once? Every part of my body was swollen like my face, I didn't eat a spider," he noted.

While receiving treatment at home, Muthomi realised that he made a blunder with how he worded his sentiments in the video, saying he ate the spider instead of saying that the spider bit him.

"I came to realize later that I had said I ate a spider while getting treatment. When I revisited the video I realized I had said I ate a spider," he said, adding that none of the footage was doctored.

The food blogger revealed that joblessness had pushed him to start preparing and eating bizarre dishes to thrust himself into the world of content creation. He started with comedy before venturing into preparing surprising dishes.

"My first video was on February 2019, I have not started this year I fried tea, I took onions and tomatoes and fried first then added milk and drinking chocolate, I have never drank something sweeter than that," he added.

Muthomi first gained attention after a stunt whereby he ate a bat, which amassed over 933,200 views on the platform. A running nose for hours, chest pains, fever, sore throat, flu, and coughing blood are some of the side effects Muthomi experienced shortly after devouring the flying mammal, with the flu almost costing him his voice.

The comedian announced that he did not intend on eating a bat but after it was trapped in his house he got creative and made content for his over 221.6k followers.
