Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Nyamongo recalled that he had hired Eric Maigo as its Acting Finance Director before he was found murdered.

Speaking on Citizen TV's Power Talk on Tuesday, September 26, Nyamongo remarked that the news of the death of the accountant stunned the entire hospital and himself as he was with Maigo 12 hours prior during a board meeting.

The CEO added that Maigo had made an impressive presentation at the meeting and was to interact with him again the following day (September 15) but unfortunately, that was not to be.

"It is very perplexing to us because I was the last person with him on his last day at work, on September 14. I interacted with him when we had a board meeting of the hospital’s Finance and Investments Committee where Maigo made an impressive presentation," Nyamongo revealed.

"We were to meet the following day but that day he never came. It was disheartening to find that Eric was no more yet I was with him 12 hours ago."

He added that Maigo was among those he recruited personally and has been influential in transforming Nairobi Hospital into a centre offering world-class service delivery to patients, particularly managing its finances.

"When I joined the Nairobi Hospital, I was the one who recruited him and he has been my right-hand person, especially in the execution of financial matters," he went on.

According to Nyamongo, Maigo's death sent shockwaves across the entire hospital even though they are working on ensuring the wellness of staff affected by the development.

As a result, the hospital deployed counsellors to collaborate with staff to cope with the dire situation of losing one of its best staff in a cruel manner.

"This has been a very difficult moment for the family of the Nairobi hospital. All of us are saddened by the murder of this gentleman who was one of the best staff I have ever worked with," he mourned.

"It has been very difficult but we thank God we have been having counsellors who have been working to enable our staff to understand the situation."

Maigo will be buried at their home in Keumbu, Kisii County on Friday, September 29.

Nyamongo added that they are following up on the murder case to ensure the cause is established.

"I would like to send my condolences to the family of Eric Maigo, that is Mzee Onchari and the entire family. We are with him. As the story unfolds we are keen on knowing what is the cause," Nyamongo said.

Maigo was on Friday, September 15 found dead in his home in Woodley Estate, Nairobi County, lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.

During the same night, the main suspect in Maigo's murder was finally tracked down and arrested in Kibra slums in an intelligence-led operation by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

Ann Adhiambo, alias Nut, was held at the Muthaiga Police Station awaiting transfer to the Kilimani Police Station which is handling the matter. She will be arraigned on Wednesday, September 27.

The arrest came after DCI released photos of her while she was captured on CCTV escaping Maigo's residence in Woodley, Nairobi County, which led to detectives recovering her clothes.

Another suspect, Cynthia Lusega Andalo, was previously arrested and arraigned in connection with the gruesome murder but was set free by the court after the prosecution said they had no evidence to charge or even continue detaining the alleged suspect.
