The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that Kenyatta Avenue in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) was closed temporarily on Friday, February 23.

In a notice on Saturday, February 24, the authority's Director General Kungu Ndung’u revealed that the temporary closure affected the city road at Uhuru Highway Roundabout.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of Kenyatta Avenue at Uhuru Highway Roundabout.

"This is to allow for highway maintenance works at the section," KeNHA explained the reason for the temporary closure.

The section was closed from Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11.00 pm and the closure will lapse on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Midnight.

Motorists using the road to transit through the CBD were thus offered alternative routes as indicated by KeNHA.

"All motorists accessing Uhuru Highway (A8) from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as University Way, Utalii Street, Market Street.

"Posta Road, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue and Haile Selassie Avenue," added the notice.

Motorists using the road were further advised to approach the affected section with caution as well as follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be offered by Police and Traffic marshals on site.

This is the second road that KeNHA has closed due to maintenance work.

On Thursday, February 22, the highways authority closed a section of Lang'ata Road along the service lane (Nyayo Stadium bound lane) between T-Mall Roundabout and Madaraka Roundabout.

The section was closed on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25 between 6 am and 8 pm, disrupting daytime traffic along that section of the road.

Motorists from Raila Odinga Way, Mai Mahiu Road and Lang'ata Road heading towards Madaraka Roundabout were advised to take the Ole Sangale Link

Alternatively, they were advised to turn at T-Mall Roundabout and proceed to the U-turn just after Wilson Airport exit and take the Flyover towards Madaraka.

Traffic on Langata Road T-Mall flyover on August 8, 2022. The flyover was officially opened to traffic after it was commissioned by former President Uhuru Kenyatta on May 31, 2022. /NAIROBI NEWS
