Google's Year in Search for 2023 not only captures the pulse of Kenyan interests but also reflects the global stories that left an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of internet users in the country.

Google has released its annual Year in Search for 2023, with politician Millicent Omanga leading the way as the most searched Kenyan on the search giant this year.
The former nominated senator became a hot topic on Google following an alleged explicit video leaked onto the internet which was later determined to have been downloaded from a pornography website and photoshopped to make it look like it was her.
Coming in second was Pastor Ezekiel, a man of God who was also searched by a lot of Kenyans on Google over his links with suspected cult leader, Paul Mackenzie and his ownership of the New Life Prayer Centre and Church, which was subjected to closure by the government.

Musician DJ Fatxo came in third following investigations into his alleged involvement in the mysterious death of Jeff Mwathi.
He was later cleared of murder charges in Mwathi's death, though the State on June 8, 2023, announced that it would call a total of 35 witnesses to testify in an inquest into Mwathi's death.
YouTuber Georgina Njenga followed in fourth following her announcement that she had parted ways with former Machachari TV series actor Tyler Mbaya (Baha).
She also made headlines on Thursday, January 5 when a raunchy video of her was leaked on Telegram and captured her dancing naked while inside a room, prompting Baha to announce that he would take legal action.
Mackenzie who is accused of having forced congregants in his church to fast leading to the death of hundreds, became the fifth most Googled Kenyan, ahead of Faith Kipyegon, the three-time world record holder in middle-distance running.
"Kipyegon made the list of the top trending searches by Kenyans at number six after she won the World Athletics Championships 1500m and 5000m titles, completing a remarkable distance double and becoming the first woman ever to complete a 1,500-5,000 meters double at the World Championships," Google stated.
Globally, the top trending personalities consisted of a mixture of sports stars, political figures, and entertainment personalities, mostly stemming from the English Premier League.
The top three trending global personalities in the country consisted of Arsenal's Declan Rice and Chelsea stars Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caicedo, with Mudryk emerging top following a transfer battle between Arsenal and Chelsea, which Chelsea won by signing the Ukranian on a £87 million deal.
Rice was signed by Arsenal for a British record fee of £105 million from West Ham United.
Ugandan President Museveni also features on the list, drawing international attention for signing an anti-LGBTQ+ law with a death penalty for same-sex acts, a move that sparked condemnation both locally and globally.
